Research Officer

 

The Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ) is seeking to identify a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Research Officer in its Research Coordinating Unit, on a fixed term contractual basis.

 

Job Summary

The incumbent conducts and/or contributes to social, economic and environmental research towards advancing the PIOJ’s sustainable development agenda and maintains a database to facilitate the Institute’s research efforts.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Identify appropriate research concepts towards the establishment and maintenance of a system that facilitates research in support of policy development and evidence-based and integrated planning
  • Conduct research and disseminate findings in keeping with the periodic research agenda
  • Contribute to the efficient completion of internally and externally conducted research undertakings
  • Maintain a database of data and information consistent with the research agenda

 

Qualifications and Experience

At minimum a Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Development Studies or other Social Science, such as Sociology or Psychology, with at least three years’ experience in a research capacity OR a Master’s degree in a similar area with at least one year’s research experience.

 

 Specific Knowledge/ Competencies

  • Good data analysis skills
  • Excellent communication skills with specific emphasis on technical writing
  • Expertise in data analysis software, such as SPSS, STATA, Econometrics
  • Advanced quantitative and qualitative research techniques
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good interpersonal skills
