The Barbados Civil Aviation Authority is the national regulatory body which oversees all aspects of civil aviation. Our aim is to ensure the highest standards of safety, security and efficiency in the aviation industry.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our Flight Safety Department as a Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems Officer. You will oversee RPAS regulations, ensuring compliance with international standards and the Barbados Civil Aviation Act, contributing to the safety of all airspace operations in Barbados.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Review applications for RPAS operating permits and approvals, ensuring all conditions and requirements are met.

2. Verify Prime Minister's Office approval before submitting applications to the Authority.

3. Evaluate the nature of operations, prepare reports, and determine if higher-level permissions are needed.

4. Collaborate with air navigation services, flight operations, and airworthiness inspectors for application assessments.

5. Draft and process permits for qualified RPAS operators.

6. Develop informational pamphlets and circulars for RPAS permit applicants.

7. Research and recommend amendments to Civil Aviation Regulations based on industry changes and ICAO publications.

8. Establish and maintain the RPAS Register and keep detailed records of all applications and approvals.

9. Liaise with Barbados Customs & Excise and the Office of the Commissioner of Police as authorized.

10. Provide on-the-job training for Technical Assistants and conduct performance appraisals.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

1. Holder of a private pilot licence, air traffic controller licence, or maintenance engineer licence with at least 2 years of aviation industry experience.

2. An Associate Degree or Diploma in Management, Public Administration, or equivalent post-secondary qualification.

 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

1. Familiarity with ICAO Annexes 1, 2, 6, and 14 standards and recommended practices.

2. Knowledge of Barbados Civil Aviation Regulations, especially in-Flight Operations, Rules of the Air, RPAS, and Air Traffic Control.

3. Excellent human relations and communication skills.

4. Strong analytical and administrative abilities.

5. Sound reasoning and good judgement.
