Registrar of the Magistrate Court

JOB SUMMARY

The Registrar of the Magistrates Court is responsible for the administration of the Registry of the Magistracy.

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The purpose of the Magistracy Registrar is as follows:

 

  • To be responsible for the administration of the centralised TCI Magistracy

 

  • To give guidance on court procedures and processed to members of the public who are unrepresented by counsel

 

  • To coordinate the activities of an to supervise the Clerk of the Court, Assistant Clerks of Court, Administrative clerks and bailiffs.

 

  • This position seeks to create and maintain an organisation:

 

  • Whose activities are organised, directed, coordinated and executed in accordance with the laws of the Turks and Caicos Islands

 

  • Where proper guidance underpinned by the law is provided to members of the public, and access to justice is improved.

 

  • To plan, organise and supervise the work performed by the Clerks of Court and other employees of the Magistrate’s Court;

 

  • To ensure compliance with the law when court office staff are performing clerical and other functions;

 

  • To be responsible for the proper filing of all records in all the Magistrate’s Courts;

 

  • To act as custodian of all documents; exhibits, articles seized or of anything detained by a Magistrate in accordance with law;

 

  • To perfect orders of the Magistrate’s Court;

 

  • To certify extracts of the proceedings the Magistrate’s Court;

 

  • To produce, prepare and certify appeal records of the Magistrate’s Courts to the Supreme Court;

 

  • To receive special assignments orally or in writing from the Resident Magistrates, Senior Resident Magistrate or the Chief Magistrate.

 

  • To carry out orders of the Magistrate’s Courts generally and conduct or direct the conduct of auctions pursuant to Orders of the Court.

 

  • To participate in committees of the Judiciary as requested.

 

  • To carry out any other function or duty required by order of a Magistrate’s Court, Practice Directions, Rules of Court or any other written law; and

 

  • Perform any other functions or duties pertaining to the operation of the Magistrate’s Court as may be required for the operations of that Court.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

The post holder must possess:    

 

  •  Minimum qualifications: Bachelor of Laws and a LEC — Legal Education Certificate

 

  • Admission to practise law in the Turks and Caicos Islands or any Commonwealth Jurisdiction

 

Minimum Experience: Five (7) years as an Attorney-at-Law and at least 3 years’ experience in an administrative capacity.

 

DURATION

A three (3) year contract extendable by mutual agreement. 

 

RENUMERATION PACKAGE:

SALARY: Grade 9.1 $75,363.00 per annum plus allowances

TELEPHONE ALLOWANCE - $1800 per annum

TRANSPORTATION ALLOWANCE - $2,760 per annum

HOUSING ALLOWANCE - $18,000.00 per annum
