RESPONSIBLE FOR MANAGING, CO-ORDINATORING AND PERFORMING PREVENTATIVE/RESTORATIVE AND REHABILITATIVE PROFESSIONAL NURSING ACTIVITIES IN A TIMELY.

 VACANCY

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position at the North-Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA):

REGISTERED MENTAL HEALTH NURSE

The incumbent will be responsible for managing, coordinating and performing preventative/restorative and rehabilitative professional nursing activities in a timely, efficient and effective manner, utilizing the nursing process to plan and implement quality nursing care in order to achieve optimum functioning of the patient/client.

Main Responsibilities:

• Deliver nursing care to patients/clients in hospital and other healthcare facilities according to specific needs, such as hygiene needs, nutritional needs, vital signs and obtaining routine specimens (all patient care needs will be met by using the nursing care plan and classification system).
• Participate in daily ward rounds with the medical team.
• Identify the needs of patients and develop a plan of care to meet the day to day needs of each patient.
• Elevate and change as the need arise.
• Record all treatment given to patients using the principles of documentation.
• Document and report all aspects of care given.
• Control the use of drugs following policy guidelines of the healthcare organization and the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
• Provide assistance to the medical doctor/psychiatric doctor as required.
• Record all observations on patient’s behaviour, response to treatment and changes in condition.
• Maintain ethics in the performance of duties and to ensure compliance with the Code of Ethics of the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago and the Patient’s Bill of Rights.
• Educate patients and relatives about illness and treatment and rehabilitation programmes.
• Perform other related duties as directed by the appropriate organisational relationship.

Minimum Qualifications, Training and Experience:

• Diploma, Certificate or Specialized Qualification in Psychiatric Nursing from a recognized institution.
• Up to date registration with the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
• Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a similar field would be an asset.

* Certificates acquired at foreign universities MUST be supported by certified transcripts as well as evidence that the completed programme is accredited in Trinidad and Tobago. *
