Quantity Surveyor

An engineering & contracting company is currently seeking suitably qualified applicants for the position of Quantity Surveyor.

The successful candidate will be required to provide supervision of others, client management activities and leadership of the quantity surveying function within your organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Design Stage

  • Assist in establishing a client’s requirements and undertake feasibility studies.
  • Run cost analyses of the various types of work as a forerunner to tender preparation.
  • Select, price and source construction materials.
  • Advise clients on procurement strategies.
  • Factor in the implications of health and safety regulations.
  • Identify commercial risks and help develop and possible suitable recommendation

Project Building Stage

  • Prepare the tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, with the architect and the client.
  • Select subcontractors, agree the scope of services, and allocate work.
  • Monitor and control costs throughout the project.
  • Identify risks surrounding the project and the likelihood of cost variation.
  • Track any changes to the design or actual work and adjust budget projections.
  • Value completed work and arrange payments to subcontractors.
  • Analyse progress and write detailed reports.
  • Liaise between site managers, project managers, site engineers and the client.

Project Ending Stage

  • Prepare summary reports for the client and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Run cost analyses for ongoing repair and maintenance work.
  • Advise on any outstanding contractual claims remaining.
  • Any other assigned duties

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BSc (Undergraduate Degree) in Quantity Surveying/Cost Engineering or related field
  • Certificate in Construction or Project Management
  • JIQS (Jamaica Institute of Quantity Surveyors) Certified or equivalent preferred
  • At least five years of relevant experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, preferably in interior/ ground up, commercial / healthcare-related projects, new and refurbished buildings.
  • Construction estimating or finance experience
  • Determining project budgets, measuring project quantities, preparing contract documentation, administering contracts, and preparing final accounts14
  • Sound knowledge of construction, engineering science and technology, and project management
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking skills
  • Ability to use initiative, organize, plan, and strategize
  • Excellent negotiating, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, risk and value management, and cost control
  • A valid driver's licence
