The QHSE Officer is responsible for ensuring the maintenance of the Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Systems throughout the Company and its associated business entities and subsidiaries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

 QUALITY

  • Co-ordinates the Quality Management System of the Company and its associated business entities and subsidiaries, leading in specific business areas as assigned.
  • Develops and maintains Quality Control Procedures based on Good Manufacturing and Distribution Practices (GMP/GDP) and operational needs, including but not limited to the development of policies, standard operating procedures, work instructions, forms and audit systems to support the requirements of the Quality Systems in assigned business areas.
  • Assists with the implementation of policies, procedures and work instructions for the Company and its associated business entities and subsidiaries.
  • Conducts periodic quality audits of the Management System and reports on any non-conformances and corrective actions required.
  • Prepares and submits periodic Quality reports to the designated company officials.
  • Supports the Quality Committee and its Sub-Committees as required.
  • Coordinates Management Review meetings and completes minutes as required.
  • Provides training on Quality Control requirements to staff as needed.
  • Ensures that all completed trainings are documented and submitted for employee records, and produces training related reports as required.
  • Monitors the performance of the Company’s quality control systems to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of same and makes recommendations for any improvements required.
  • Updates and maintains all programmes, including but not limited to, the Pest Control, Housekeeping and Sanitation programmes, in support of coordinating the Quality Control Systems for storage of personal care items.
  • Conducts on-going inspections of required locations and ensures that the storage facilities and the manner of storage are compliant with established specifications.
  • Oversees the process and ensures that any damages or spillage of pharmaceutical products are handled, cleaned-up and disposed of in the specified manner under the quality and health and safety programmes of the Company.
  • Ensures the timely calibration, validation, or maintenance of quality testing equipment.
  • Oversees monitoring of cold storage and cold chain deliveries.
  • Assists with out-of-specification and failure investigations and recommends corrective actions. 

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Co-ordinates the Company’s Health and Safety Programme, including but not limited to, policy formulation, training and toolbox talks, awareness programmes, risk assessments and job safety analyses; walkthroughs and audits, co-ordination of drills; medical surveillance, conducting of accident and incident investigations etc..
  • Maintains health and safety kits, including First Aid Kits, Spill Kits and Job specific kits, as applicable.
  • Ensures that all employees have the required personal protective equipment.
  • Ensures that the Company has all MSDS on file for all traded products.
  • Interprets the MSDS and ensures that such information is disseminated in a timely manner.
  • Develops and maintains the Hazardous Communication Programme for all used and stored chemicals.
  • Conducts periodic training on the safe handling, storage and spillage of products identified under the Hazardous Communication Programme.
  • Supports the Health and Safety Committee as needed. 

ENVIRONMENT

  • Supports the Sustainability programme in assigned business areas to ensure its alignment with the Group’s Sustainability initiative.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Pharmacy
  • Health and Safety Certification / Diploma. 
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in a similar working environment.
  • Experience in Quality, Health, Safety and Environment management. 

Additional Certification:

  • ISO 9001 is considered an asset
  • ISO 45001 is considered an asset. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and Good Distribution Practices.
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation and practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Must be flexible.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Tools.
