The Programme Coordinator is responsible for co-ordinating, reviewing and supervising the skills training programme for the specified department within the training institution.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/EXPERTISE:
ü NVQ-J Level 5 Certification or Bachelor’s degree in disciplines such as Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Workforce Development, Education Leadership, Education Management and Industrial Arts
ü At least three (3) years’ relevant experience in a comparable educational and training service operation. Such experience should ideally be geared from a polytechnic institute, a tertiary education college or a national training agency
KEY COMPETENCIES:
ü Ability to design and develop high quality training programmes for the technical area in keeping with labour market demand
ü Good knowledge of the technical vocational education training system
ü Good project management skills
KEY DUTIES:
ü Plans and develops training activities in collaboration with the Head of School/Training Manager
ü Participates in the development and review of programme offerings
ü Determines facilities and resource requirements for training activities in collaboration with the Head of School/Training Manager and ensure availability
ü Co-ordinates and supervises work of the assigned section to ensure that efficiency and productivity levels are achieved and maintained; develop both short and long term plans; prepares time table/ training schedule
ü Participates in the selection and orientation of students
ü Monitors adherence to students’ record-keeping system for attendance and performance; analyse attendance and performance; take and/or recommend appropriate action as necessary
ü Arranges student placement for industry attachment / internships / practicum
ü Develops policies and procedurals manuals for the department
ü Prepares assessment instruments
ü Develops appropriate teaching strategies and methods to enhance learning
ü Prepares and submits lesson plans in keeping with established schedules and standard
ü Instructs students in the specified skill as outlined in the curriculum / competency standard
ü Plans and utilizes appropriate instructional aids and instruction techniques
ü Plans, compiles and administers tests and assessments for the purpose of measuring and monitoring student achievement/performance
ü Provides opportunities for students to develop creativity and the ability to plan organise and work with others
ü Identifies and selects resources; prepare and submit requisitions for approval; develop systems and records for managing and monitoring the resources assigned to the department / programme
ü Maintains and manages a classroom environment conducive to learning; account for equipment and materials used in instruction in each session; ensure equipment is properly used and in good condition and returned; report defects
ü Plans, co-ordinates and monitors students on educational field trips and work experience/industry attachment
ü Assists in identifying suitable work experience/internship sites; liaise with supervisory personnel at these sites
