PRODUCTION OPERATOR/TECHNICIAN

POSITION PURPOSE:

This position is responsible for oil and gas well operations, well testing, operating and maintaining field equipment and facilities, surveillance of general field operations and maintenance of various databases regarding production and operations. The position applies basic and some advanced skills to perform routine and complex operations using tools and equipment appropriate for the energy industry. Applies a general understanding of the technical concepts, practices, and procedures, and has a general knowledge of industry standards and government regulations related to the oil and gas industry.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform basic to intermediate level oilfield production operations skills which include but not limited to: tank gauging, wells testing.
  • Ability to repair equipment as needed
  • Assist in witnessing meter calibrations, monitor rates and pressures on injection and disposal wells; make necessary adjustments, monitor chemical use, and test safety systems daily; maximize daily production from wells.
  • Operate properties to ensure all regulatory, environmental and safety compliance issues and goals are met.
  • Daily production reporting and scheduling of oil and produced water movement
  • Seek ways to reduce direct operating expenses by noting problems and/or recommending courses of actions to supervisor
  • Operate wells and artificial lift methods to optimize production
  • Work on all types of production equipment, pump valves, gas regulators, etc… and identify potential problems
  • Monitor chemical and lubricating oil usage at wells.
  • Various other field related activities as required by supervisor.
  • Operate a vehicle safely under all conditions
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office.
  • Ensure that all work conducted on the facilities conforms to the Company's Control of Work Policy.
  • Utilizes Work Management Systems, ensuring that the facilities achieve the required integrity, reliability, and availability levels to enable business and asset integrity targets and KPIs are met.
  • Ensures Safety, Production and Environmental Critical and Non-Critical Routines (corrective maintenance and preventative maintenance) are completed on time and compliance targets are met.
  • Uses the Company’s reporting tools to enable effective vendor management as it pertains to cost, progress against work programmes and safety competence.
  • Delivers production rates for the facility and proactively advises of potential deviations from nominated production rates.
  • Participates in Root Cause Analysis of all production outages, equipment failures and ensures measures to avoid repeats are implemented.
  • Contributes to the development and review of operating and shutdown procedures to ensure their fitness for purpose.
  • Actively participate in the Competency Assurance Management System (CAMS) process through capability and knowledge assessments to assure competency against set targets.
 
 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  •  A technician diploma qualified in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Conversant with all forms of process engineering documentation, including block diagrams, PFD's, P&ID's, Data Sheets, Cause & Effect charts and Computerised Maintenance Mangement System.
  • Conversant with national and international codes and standards applicable to the design, construction and operation of process plant.
  • Competent in the application of process isolations and adherence to Safe Isolation and Reinstatement of Plant (SIRP).
  • Adept at working in a production and maintenace team structure.
  • Strong production experience preferably in oil and gas (upstream) or petrochemical (downstream) business.
  • General understanding of risk assessment tools and methodology.
  • Proven skills in problem solving in relation to production related issues.
  • Visible presence on site, including interacting with onshore support teams to support the ongoing business needs.
