The Business & Employment Centre is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified candidate to fill the seasonal role of PORTER on behalf of its client. The successful candidate will be instrumental in delivering a high level of service excellence in a mid-sized resort catering to a wide range of visitors.

Position: PORTER
Department: Food & Beverage
Reports To: Kitchen Supervisors

Main Duties

  • Report promptly for duty in correct uniform and name badge.
  • Wear personal protective equipment to perform duties where necessary.
  • Transport kitchen and restaurant resources e.g. Provisions, equipment, ice.
  • Packing delivered items in their respected areas.
  • Maintain clean and tidy kitchen surfaces –counters, walls, stoves, ovens, grills, sinks etc.
  • Wash and dry cutlery, glassware and plates, bowls, pots, pans, and other kitchen and restaurant equipment and utensils.
  • Ensure equipment storage areas are organized.
  • Ensure refrigerators, freezers and storage areas are clean and organized.
  • Operate dishwasher.
  • Correctly dispose of garbage throughout shift.
  • Wash and reline garbage bins as necessary.
  • Sweep and mop kitchen and restaurant as needed.
  • Clean fans in the restaurant area.
  • Maintain the general upkeep of the kitchen and restaurant areas.
  • Set up buffets.
  • Set up water stations.
  • Provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Use all chemicals in keeping with manufacturers’ instructions.
  • Report any service related issues to the Kitchen and/or Restaurant Supervisor.
  • Report any hazards to the Kitchen and/or Restaurant Supervisor immediately.
  • Follow Health and Safety, Food Handling and HACCP guidelines at all times.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions as deemed necessary by Management.
  • Any other related duty assigned by Management.

 

Skills, Abilities and Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years’ proven experience.
  • Minimum of three CXCs (or an equivalent) including Mathematics and English Language.
  • Possess a valid Police Certificate of Character.
  • Guest-oriented and service-minded.
  • Team player and able to build and maintain relationships both internal and external.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work on various shifts.
  • Ability to stand for long hours.
  • Ability to lift at least 70 pounds.

Working Environment

  • This job operates in the kitchen and restaurant environments. The incumbent of this role will be required to work in hot and cold temperatures. While performing duties, the incumbent will be required to use equipment including but not limited to: knives, forks, trays, refrigerator, pens, paper, pots, pans, cutlery, glassware and chemicals.
  • While performing this role the incumbent will occasionally be required to sit, stand, lift, bend, push, handle and feel objects, climb stairs, climb racking, taste, hear.
