The Department of Health Services would like to invite all suitable applicants to apply for the position of Physiotherapist.

PHYSIOTHERAPIST

 

MANDATE

To plan, organize, coordinate, manage and implement the operations of a Physiotherapy department to achieve quality care according to established standards.

KEY FUNCTIONS

  • To establish, implement and provide Physiotherapy for rehabilitating inpatients and outpatient clients in the community.
  • To determine, establish, review and revise physiotherapy service and professional standards, procedures and protocols based on current medical trends.
  • To plan, organize, and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Physiotherapy unit.
  • To manage physiotherapy operations to determine equipment and resource requirements so that objectives are achieved.
  • Participate in policy development and provide technical advice and guidance to other professionals.
  • Provide reports on the Physiotherapy Service and the profession to relevant Health Authorities.
  • To manage and supervise Physiotherapy students on their clinical internships.
  • Establish and promote Physiotherapy through Public Awareness Programmes.
  • To manage and supervise student volunteers in collaboration with the Department of Education.

 

KEY DUTIES (A few)

 

  • Management of clients using current assessment and treatment techniques.
  • Update and complete documentation of client’s progress using available current technology.
  • Advise and offer prescriptions for the corrective assistive aids/devices for the clients.
  • Manage and educate clients and their families/caregivers on Physiotherapy service according to client’s needs.
  • Provide Physiotherapy support to the residents and staff of the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens’ Home.
  • Develop and implement procedures and protocols with regards to the Physiotherapy services offered.
  • To plan organizational and physical structure of the Physiotherapy department to ensure effective utilization of human and material resources.
  • Organize and schedule clients’ appointments.  
  • Communicate with relevant personnel in the health services and private physicians on the management of clients with regard to physiotherapy issues.
  • Identify assistive aids/devices, materials and equipment for effective management of inpatient and outpatient clients, ensure the procurement of same and maintain stock control.  
  • Collaborate with the Sports department, Associations and coaches of the National teams on physiotherapy services.
  • Prepare estimates for Physiotherapy budget and other occasions that may arise.
  • Prepare statistical reports and other reports for the relevant departments requiring same.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

The incumbent must possess sound theoretical and practical knowledge of physiotherapy management, policies, procedures, standards and techniques.  Good leadership and interpersonal skills, good communicative, analytical and diagnostic ability and interpretative judgement and computer skills. 

This knowledge, skills and abilities are obtained in the acquisition of a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy or three-year diploma with internship with additional training and experience in the sub specialties of Physiotherapy and Management and at least two (2) years’ experience. 

The incumbent should be a registered Physiotherapist.
