KPMG Island Group is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated Payroll Manager to join our expanding Finance & Administration team.
The Payroll Manager will be responsible for performing various tasks in accordance with standard operating procedures provided by the Clients’ Payroll team including, but not limited to: processing payments, processing adjustments, setting up deductions, preparation and distribution of overpayment notices and recovery and issuing payments to terminated employees as specified by each state. In addition, the candidate needs to have in depth knowledge of the process areas and will encourage a continuous process improvement culture within the teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service Delivery
- Oversees all aspects of the payroll processing cycle.
- Assigns day to day activities to direct reports while prioritizing department workload to meet stringent deadlines.
- Monitors the achievement of operational objectives against Client criteria and contractual service levels
- Gains advanced knowledge of the Clients’ policies, procedures, and applications
- Performs quality assurance review of team members’ delivery and ensures it meets Client’s expectations and deadlines
- Identifies and resolves operational / delivery related issues and escalates as required
- Identifies, encourages and supports continuous improvement initiatives such as automation and procedural enhancements. Obtains Client Stakeholder approval before ANY changes are made to current processes.
- Ensures standard operating procedures (SOP) documents accurately reflect the way the process is performed, updating every time a process change is administered (policy change, improvement, etc.)
- Serve as the SME on any payroll related matters.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Main point of contact for clients to communicate and collaborate on all aspects of the engagement
- Assists in cultivating productive relationships between operational teams, functional, and program related stakeholders
- Effectively communicates with the Client to understand any changes to Client’s departmental policies, processes and procedures, and implement affected changes
People Management
- Oversees the KIG Payroll delivery organization and is ultimately responsible for the development and operational performance of all resources
- Direct people management responsibility for the Payroll Administrators
- Provides direction and leadership, performs annual goal setting, recommendations on promotions or transfers, and manages personnel issues by implementing performance improvement plans
- Interviews new team members and provides recommendations on team structure based on the delivery responsibilities
- Train and coach staff on in-scope processes
- Collaborates within KIG’s cross-functional departments to share best practices related to service delivery, team leadership, and reporting
- Ensure work is allocated by level according to skillset, complexity, and capacity
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance & Accounting or Equivalent Professional Accreditation
- Seven or more years of relevant Payroll work experience supporting all areas listed within the requirements
- At least five years in a people management capacity
- Advanced knowledge of International Accounting Principles

- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Willingness to work primarily in a paperless environment and expected to be using information systems for the entire workday to access data or perform activities
Compensation and benefits are very competitive and will be commensurate with experience.
