  • The Payroll Assistant supports payroll-related projects and requirements within the company. They follow up on payroll related matters with employees and supervisors, maintain and process employee payroll records, and liaising with the government for payroll related matters.

Job Description:

  • Maintain the confidentiality of employee and payroll information.
  • Contact the government regarding payroll-related matters
  • Follow up on payroll-related matters with Human Resources, employees and supervisors
  • Assist and support payroll projects and requirements as needed
  • Assist in the maintenance of relevant department files and employee payroll records.
  • Maintain and update existing stakeholder records, and create new records by entering information into the computer payroll system for those not captured by Human Resources on Employee Central
  • Respond to payroll-specific inquiries from staff, and consistently apply payroll-related government
    regulations and staff collective agreements
  • Process payroll by verifying, calculating, and inputting employee pay and deductions and generating
    appropriate documentation
  • Manage payroll-related stakeholder files
  • Review time and transaction reports for part-time and seasonal employees for each pay period.
  • Processes benefits transactions in accordance with defined procedures.
  • Executes straightforward compensation and benefits reports.
  • Reconciles compensation and benefits payment data, including bonuses and commission payments.
  • Responds to straightforward payroll and benefits inquiries.
  • Performs basic benefits entitlement calculations.
  • Applies compensation and benefit policies to make basic decisions..
  • Communicates compensation and benefits policy changes to employees.
  • Applying an understanding of human resource management (HRM) practices, policies and principles.
  • Designing, creating and maintaining payroll activities to ensure employees in all locations and at all levels receive their approved compensation in a timely and accurate manner.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management or a related field
  • Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Level 2 Certification
  • At least two (2) to three (3) years of experience in a similar capacity
  • Digital Literacy
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Intermediate)
  • Collective Agreements (Basic)
  • Proficient in Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) (Basic), Payroll Legislation (Basic) & SAP (Basic)
  • Attention to Detail
