Operator I - Trainee

This job exists to learn the operational control and maintenance skills necessary to become a Plant Operator I. During the Trainee Program, incumbents perform a variety of tasks with guidance and direction from a Plant Operator III under the general supervision of the Plant Shift Supervisor.

SUMMARY OF JOB: 

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to learn the operational control and maintenance skills necessary to become a Plant Operator I. During the Trainee Program, incumbents perform a variety of tasks with guidance and direction from a Plant Operator III under the general supervision of the Plant Shift Supervisor.  Successful completion results in appointment to Plant Operator I classification.  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Logs and interprets readings from meters, gauges, charts, and instruments. 
• Assist in operating and controlling the plant within SOPs and SOCLs. 
• Inspects process equipment. 
• Obtains samples and performs various tests. 
• Brings process deficiencies to the attention of the Plant Operator II and/or the Plant Shift Supervisor.   
• Keeps accurate records of shift operations. 
• Responds to chemical emergency alarms wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.  
• Inspects, repairs, and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in operation and detects deficiencies in the operational process.  
• Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work. processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. 
• Preparation of equipment for maintenance to be performed. 
• Batching of Chemicals. 
• Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. 
• Perform any other duties as required by the job function. 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• 5 ‘O’ levels Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics, English 
• Process Plant Operator Diploma 
• MET, EET (optional) 
• Have at least One (1) year experience working in a plant environment

Rate:$39.27 per hour
