Occupational Therapist

The BVI Health Services Authority (a client-centered healthcare organization) invites qualified and professional applicants for the position of an Occupational Therapist.  The Occupational Therapist develops and implements a comprehensive rehabilitation/vocational program to cater to persons with mental disorders including therapy services.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to): 

  1. Works with mental health staff and other agencies to develop and implement comprehensive occupational/vocational therapy services.
  2. Coordinates the occupational therapy services so that the needs of a variety of patients are met.
  3. Screens and evaluates referred patients through a variety of functional and behavioral assessments.
  4. Establishes treatment plans for patients in collaboration with mental health team.
  5. Provides therapy through various activities to assist patients in developing living and self-care skills.
  6. Provides vocational therapy to assist in job placements to enable patients to achieve some level of independent living.
  7. Markets Occupational Therapist Aide and develop skills in treatment.
  8. Supervises Occupational Therapist Aide and develop skills in treatment.
  9. Documents and maintains clinical and administrative files in accordance with the policies and procedures regarding case records.  Implements and adheres to policies with current patient confidentiality
  10. Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinical meeting and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain standards of methodology and techniques.
  11. Assists Mental Health Nurse Manager in organizing and successfully executing promotion and activities relevant to Mental Health Promotion
  12. Assists in preparing the annual budget.
  13. Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinic meetings and workshops to enhance professional development and maintain standards of methodology and techniques.
  14. Any other duties assigned by the Director of Mental Health Services and other working colleagues to enhance the growth and development of the department in our services being rendered.

Minimum Requirements:

Education & Experience

v  Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited University.

v  A minimum of two (2) years experience in a mental health facility in a position of Occupational/Vocational Therapist.

Licenses /Certifications

v  Allied Health Professionals Council

Knowledge, skills and abilities

v  Sound interpersonal skills.

v  Sound oral and written communication skills.

v  Mature person with good judgment and the ability to manage group programs.

Physical Demands

v  The physical demands are minimal and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.

v  May be required to travel to clinics.

Work Environment

v  The work environment is representative and typical of similar jobs in comparable organizations.

SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
