The Deckhand (Ordinary Seaman) assists the Able Bodied seaman with assigned duties on the deck. This includes handling of lines during mooring operations, maintenance of the vessel and assisting passengers to embark and disembark.

JOB SUMMARY
The Deckhand (Ordinary Seaman) assists the Able Bodied seaman with assigned duties on the deck. This includes handling of lines during mooring operations, maintenance of the vessel and assisting passengers to embark and disembark.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under supervision, handles mooring lines and rigging whilst dock/undocking the vessel.
Perform maintenance and repair works as required including chipping and painting.
Perform lookout duties whilst underway when required.
Assist with the safe boarding and disembarking of passengers and their vehicles.
Assist with passenger and crew safety on board during voyages.
Participate in meetings, training, drills and safety audits as required.
To know the location and use of all firefighting and safety equipment including fire stations, extinguishers, rescue boat, muster stations, life rafts, evacuation slides, life jackets etc).
Present professional level of customer service and proper appearance at all times.
Attain and eventually demonstrate the skillset required to become an Able Bodied seaman.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Officer or Master.
WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to the Chief Officer
KEY SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
A good command of Maritime English and phrases.
Efficient Deck Hand (EDF) certification.
Proficient in rope works, handling and mooring operations including avoiding associated dangers.
Capable of operating all safety equipment (incl. fire extinguishers, fire and bilge pumps, life rafts, etc.) as directed and when required.
Capable of directing passengers and vehicular traffic on board.
Capable of safely and efficiently carrying material weighing upwards of 75lbs.
Qualifications, Experience and Training
STCW II/5 and V/1 Deck Rating certification from Maritime Services Division, MOWT.
Police Certificate of Character, Crowd and Crisis Management, Security Awareness Certificates.
Trinidad and Tobago Seafarers Medical Certificate plus 10 point Drug and Alcohol test.
Previous experience in the customer service industry would be an asset.
