OPERATOR 1-PLANT

SUMMARY OF JOB: Operate, monitor, and maintain lab equipment and processes in compliance with ANSA Group policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Safety and Operational Control Limits (SOCLs) to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Reviews the logbook in consultation with the previous shift operator to assess plant conditions, recent activities, and any changes to processes or procedures for continuity.
• Conducts an initial housekeeping and readiness assessment in collaboration with the outgoing operator to ensure a clean workspace, adequate chemical volumes, calibration schedules are up-to-date and equipment readiness.
• Develops a preliminary shift activity plan, prioritizing product certification, quality checks, and necessary resampling, to maintain production standards.
• Logs and interprets readings from meters, gauges, charts, and instruments to monitor operational accuracy and detect deviations from expected performance.
• Operates, inspects, and controls lab equipment within SOPs and SOCLs following calibration procedures for reagents and equipment as per specifications to ensure accurate and reliable measurements.
• Collects and analyses samples according to the Sample Plan, following lab procedures and identifies high-risk sampling points where enhanced PPE is required.to ensure accuracy and safety.
• Cross-references sample results with previous shift data and plant instrumentation to verify accuracy and consistency in readings.
• Employs established techniques for handling and disposal of materials (e.g., avoiding brine contamination in effluent) to avoid spillage, wastage, and contamination of samples and secondary streams.
• Records accurate batch numbers and generates certificates electronically to document quality control and maintain traceability.
• Follows post-test housekeeping procedures, including by cleaning the workstation and organizing equipment to avoid clutter and maintain a safe work environment.
• Reports process deficiencies and operational concerns to the Plant Operator III and/or the Plant Shift Supervisor to facilitate corrective actions.
• Maintains accurate shift records and documents activities including calibration logs and reports any discrepancies or calibration issues to the supervisor for timely resolution, to track performance metrics and ensure smooth operational transitions.
• Perform any other duties as required by the job function.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

• 5 ‘O’ levels Mathematics, Chemistry or Physics, English
• Process Plant Operator Diploma
• MET, EET (optional) 
• Microsoft Office Suite; Knowledge of plant equipment and SOPs and SOCLs 
• At least One (1) year experience working in a plant environment
