The News Editor plays a crucial role in overseeing the editorial process and ensuring the quality and integrity of news content produced by 284 Media. This position combines editorial responsibilities with leadership and guidance to optimize news production and distribution processes.
Job Description:
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Content Production and Editing:
- Write, edit, and produce reports for on-air and digital platforms.
- Produce news content.
- Edit news stories for clarity, accuracy, grammar, and style.
- Anchor newscasts and host various programs as needed.
2. Research and Coordination:
- Select and research various news topics, contacts, and interview sources.
- Maintain notes, recordings, and news files for reference.
- Coordinate with reporters, producers, and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and timely delivery of news content.
3. Content Curation and Fact-Checking:
- Curate news stories from various sources for inclusion in daily broadcasts or publications on the news website.
- Verify facts, sources, and quotes to ensure the accuracy and credibility of news content.
4. Leadership and Guidance:
- Provide leadership in editorial decision-making and guidance to the news team.
- Enforce scheduling, assignments, and content balance protocols within the newscast.
Communicate with reporters and writers to provide feedback and guidance on their work.
- 5. Oversight and Coordination:
- Oversee the release of news content to the 284 Media channel, 284Media website, and other platforms, ensuring timely and accurate publication.
- Coordinate with relevant teams to ensure seamless integration of news content across platforms.
6. Quality Control:
- Conduct final reviews of news content before publication or broadcast to identify and correct any errors or inconsistencies.
- Uphold the organization's editorial standards and guidelines at all times.
7. Media Production Responsibilities: Write, edit, and produce reports for on-air and/or digital platforms.
- Produce news
- Report stories in appropriate formats for distribution platforms, including social media.
- Anchor newscasts and host various programs as needed
- Select and research multiple news topics, contacts, and interview sources.
- Maintain notes, recordings, and news files.
- Manage social media presence for news gathering, distribution, and branding purposes.
- Follow pertinent persons or publications and attend related events.
- Maintain contact lists, social media accounts, and other data for ongoing coverage continuity and knowledge accumulation.
- Proactively participate in the creative cycle of story and program origination with reporters, supervising producer, and other staff.
- Assist in the development of content for various shows on CCT Live.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in journalism, media, or related fields, with demonstrated experience in editorial roles.
- Strong writing, editing, and production skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Knowledge of AP style and other editorial standards.
- Proficiency in digital media tools and content management systems.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
