National Security Specialist
The Planning Institute of Jamaica is seeking to identify a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of
National Security Specialist, in the Social Policy, Planning and Research Division on a fixed term contractual basis.
Job Summary
Provide high-quality technical, policy, and planning advice to the Government of Jamaica and other key stakeholders in all matters relating to national security and justice within the context of sustainable development.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide technical advice and strategic direction in relation to national security and justice.
- Contribute to the development, monitoring and evaluation of national policies, plans and programmes.
- Undertake and lead research activities to inform decision making and to provide complete, accurate, timely data on the performance of the national security and justice sectors.
- Prepare position papers, policy briefs, Cabinet Submissions, Cabinet Notes, Briefing Notes and other Technical Reports for Cabinet, government Ministries, Departments and Agencies and other stakeholders.
- Analyse trends on national security and justice and related social indicators, and prepare relevant chapters for the Economic and Social Survey of Jamaica (ESSJ) and other publications as required.
Qualification and Experience Required
- Post graduate degree in Crime and Development Studies, Criminology, Law and Development Studies, Security and Development Studies, Public Policy or related areas
- Minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience in the national security sector or equivalent combination of qualification and experience in national security and justice policy development
- Relevant knowledge and experience in the policy development process and programmatic interventions. Familiarity with government operations and business processes would be an advantage.
- Training in research methodologies and use of statistical applications for planning and fore-sighting are highly recommended.
