Network Technician
Network Technician Job Summary:
The Network Technician supports the stable operation of the network (wired and wireless). This will include, but not limited to, assisting in the planning, designing and the implementation of network infrastructure, installing, configuring and maintaining all network hardware, software and communication links, and optimizing the network to ensure minimal downtime. The network technician will also diagnose, resolve and document problems, in an accurate and timely manner and provide technical support and training to end users.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Network administration
1.1. Ensures the proper functioning of the Network by installing, configuring, maintaining and optimizing the network infrastructure (All Network hardware and software).
1.2. Observe and assess network behavior to ensure correctness, performance, availability and scalability
1.3. Diagnose hardware, software, and configuration failures of network devices such as routers and switches
1.4. Installs, configure and maintain switches, routers, wireless access points and other networking devices
1.5. Ensures the correct versions of network hardware and software components are installed.
1.6. Put measures in place to ensure Network security
1.7. Analyzes and troubleshoots Network failures, identify and rectify bottlenecks and provides solutions in an accurate and timely manner.
1.8. Assists in the analysis, planning, development and deployment of network solutions
1.9. Recommends upgrades and improvements to current network infrastructure
2. Telephone System
2.1. Monitor and manage the IP based telephone system
2.2. Troubleshoot and provide solutions to issues reported
2.3. Generate usage reports
3. User Management and Support
3.1. Provides support to ALL (2000+) end users.
3.2. Ensures all clients have access based on their specific user rights and privileges.
3.3. Provides help – desk support
4. IT Projects
4.1. Conduct maintenance on network switches, wireless access points and all other networking peripherals during school vacation periods
4.2. Participates in special projects as directed by Network Administrator
5. Reporting and Documentation
5.1. Prepares documents pertaining to hardware and software issues
5.2. Document network installations, moves and component changes
5.3. Maintain records on repairs, network or component downtime, changes and updates
5.4. Keeps a log of all help – desk reports.
