JOB PURPOSE

Performs scientific and technical tasks under the general supervision of the LABORATORY DIRECTOR/CHIEF MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST. To assist and support the medical professionals' decisions and care in a designated division or department of the Laboratory.

 

FUNDAMENTAL COMPETENCIES

  • · Perform complex laboratory tests in areas such as hematology, chemistry, immunology, microbiology, and molecular diagnostics.
  • · Calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment, including but not limited to automated analyzers, and microscopes.
  • Prepare specimens for testing, following strict procedures to prevent contamination according to Standard Operating Procedures daily
  • Adhere to quality control standards and laboratory protocols to ensure the reliability of results.
  •  Patients report validated, authorized and dispatched daily
  • Perform troubleshooting, maintenance, and quality checks on laboratory equipment.
  • Monitor and manage the inventory of reagents and laboratory supplies.
  • Comply with all safety, health, and environmental regulations in the lab, including the proper disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new diagnostic procedures or technologies.
  • Train and supervise laboratory technicians and support staff as needed
  • Staff trained and assessed as set out in the staff/department’s training program/ procedures

  • The capacity to precisely gather, arrange, and interpret both written and numerical data;

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from a reputable academic institution
  • Licensed Medical Technologist with the Council, Professions Supplemental to Medicine (CPSM) in Jamaica.
  • Three (3) years of minimum experience and/or supervisory management training
  • Extensive knowledge in or expert in one or more of the following disciplines: Haematology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology. Haematology.
  • Training in Laboratory Quality Management Systems and Laboratory Standard (ISO 15189/ISO)
  • Knowledge of computer applications and usage. A competitive remuneration package exists for the successful applicant.
  • May require shift work, weekends, or holidays depending on the facility’s needs.
