Job Objective:

Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, the Mechanical Technician is generally accountable for effecting mechanical maintenance and repairs of progressively increasing complexity to PLNL’s mechanical equipment to assure optimum plant performance, reliability and availability.

The incumbent must consistently fulfill these requirements in accordance with the Company’s guiding principles, business objectives, policy guidelines, local and international statutory requirements and accepted best practices while ensuring business continuity and compliance of all HSSE standards and exemplary ethical conduct.

Preferred Candidate Profile:

• Possession of a National Engineering Technician Diploma (NETD) in Mechanical Engineering equivalent from a well-recognized, accredited institution.
• Minimum five (5) years progressive experience in the mechanical field, preference will be given to maintenance-based experience in the energy/petrochemical sector. Ammonia plant knowledge and operation will be an asset.
• A minimum of five GCE/CXC/CSEC passes including Mathematics and English Language.
• Knowledge and demonstrable experience in Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification for routine jobs and critical activities in Petrochemical Plants.
• Competency in the development of job safety analysis, conducting toolbox meetings, conducting safety audits, and adherence to the permit to work and lock-out/tag-outs systems are integral part of this role.
• Ability to develop preventative maintenance programmes/procedures to inform the maintenance practices as well as the implementation on both rotating and stationary equipment.
• Knowledge and experience in both supervision and execution of maintenance to stationary equipment (boilers, vessels, columns, exchangers, drums, valves, piping systems), with key adherence to best in class standards.
• Knowledge and experience in both supervision and execution of maintenance of rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, turbines, gear boxes, fans, motors, and blowers. 
• Experience in alignment, vibration analysis, single plane dynamic balancing and interpretation of equipment drawings and use of vibration monitoring software.
• Ability to participate as an active member of the Emergency Response Team as required – Fire Crew, First Responder or Building Warden, etc.
• In-depth experience in providing quality control checks on repairs/alterations/upgrades of equipment.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite and an ERP System e.g. Enterprise E1 (JDE), SAP, Maximo.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
• Ability to work in confined spaces and on heights when required
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and orally.
• Ability to multi-task in a dynamic results-oriented environment.
• Ability to respond to callouts beyond normal working hours as part of the On-Call Roster for normal plant operation or in unplanned outages.
