CORE FUNCTION

Responsible for the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment and systems to ensure maximum production. This position creates value for the facility by performing preventative and corrective maintenance leading to increased uptime and reliability, thus helping the facility to meet their production and quality goals.

The successful candidate will report to the Snr. Maintenance Engineer and will perform skilled mechanical work such as repairs, maintenance, upgrading and modifications, on specialized machinery and equipment used in the manufacturing process, to ensure that they are within operating specifications and producing at optimum outputs.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Identify, troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and simple electrical problems on plant facilities and production equipment.
  • Installing and performing diagnostic tests on mechanical systems.
  • Perform basic welding tasks and repairs
  • Troubleshooting mechanical malfunctions and breakdowns, as well as performing repairs.
  • Documenting processes and maintaining maintenance service records.
  • Monitoring the availability of parts
  • Optimizing mechanical efficiency by adjusting machinery and equipment settings.
  • Perform all tasks observing safety standards
  • Maintaining a tidy work environment and adhering to industry regulations.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY

  • Be able to work both in independently and in a team environment completing objectives efficiently with a sense of responsibility.
  • Sound knowledge of machine operations and maintenance;
  • Working knowledge of routine/preventative maintenance principles and procedures;
  • Ability to operate maintenance tools and equipment;
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems (a definite advantage)
  • Sound knowledge of safety requirements;
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills;
  • Good written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent analytical and Trouble shooting skills to identify and solve a wide range of practical and intellectual problems;
  • IT literate - fully conversant in Microsoft Office applications: WORD, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook a definite advantage

 

 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Level III qualification in Mechanical Maintenance from HEART NCTVET or equivalent;
  • Minimum three years’ proven experience in mechanical maintenance
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing plant a definite advantage
