MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR

 

CORE PURPOSE:

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of equipment and facilities within our ice cream production plant. This role ensures that all production machinery, refrigeration units, and building systems operate efficiently and safely. The ideal candidate will have a strong industrial/maintenance/mechanical background leadership experience, and a passion for ensuring high-quality, reliable production operations in a food manufacturing environment.

 KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians, ensuring that all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team environment while ensuring staff follow all safety protocols and company policies.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide feedback for team members.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance (PM) program for all production and building equipment, including ice cream machines, conveyors, refrigeration systems, and packaging equipment.
  • Schedule and prioritize PM tasks to minimize downtime and ensure smooth production operations.
  • Oversee troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as any production equipment breakdowns or malfunctions.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and quality teams to identify opportunities for equipment upgrades, process improvements, and cost savings
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to maintenance, including equipment uptime, repair costs, and response times.
  • Lead and coordinate the response to emergency maintenance situations, ensuring swift resolution to any critical equipment failures or building issues.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment logs, and repair histories.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for maintenance documentation, including safety audits, inspections, and certifications.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.Sc. Degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Additional certifications (e.g., HVAC, electrical, or refrigeration certification) are a plus.

 EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in a food manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience with refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience in managing preventative maintenance programs and leading a maintenance team.
  • Strong knowledge of equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair in a production environment, especially within the food industry.
  • Familiarity with food safety standards, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and health and safety regulations (OSHA, etc.).
  • Proficiency in utilizing computerized maintenance management software  (CMMS) and other maintenance tracking tools.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet tight production deadlines.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The Maintenance Supervisor will primarily work within the production facility, which can include areas with cold temperatures (due to refrigeration systems) and exposure to manufacturing equipment.
  • Some work may require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders, use hand tools, and work in confined spaces.
  • Occasional work in noisy, hot, or cold environments.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to urgent equipment repairs and perform troubleshooting tasks.
