The Master (Ferries) is responsible to PATT for the safe, reliable and efficient operation and navigation of the vessel. The Master is to take full account of environmental protection needs in the navigation and operation of the vessel. The Master is to ensure that the vessel is fully compliant with all applicable local, national and international maritime regulations. The incumbent has overall leadership of the crew and must demonstrate a strong resolve to uphold and maintain the policies, objectives and service commitments of the PATT (TTIT).
Key Duties and Responsibilities |
- The Master has the overall responsibility in the effective implementation and review of the Safety Management System and reports all matters which may have a negative effect on health, safety or the environment, directly to the Designated Person Ashore (DPA).
- The Master has command at all times and has overall responsibility for vessel navigational safety inclusive of compliance with all local and International Laws and regulations.
- Oversees that all operations on board are done in a safe, customer oriented, economical and environmentally friendly manner.
- Collaborates with the DPA and Vessel Management, to ensure that the crew certifications and training requirements are compliant with local and International Regulations.
- Co-ordinates and accounts for human resources relative to: employment contracts, medicals, vacation/sick leave, overtime, accommodation, allowances, etc.
- Manages, trains and motivates officers and crew to observe and execute established policies and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with vessel's security and emergency plans & conducts emergency drills, health and safety meetings and reports findings to the DPA.
- Responds to; investigates and reports on any hazardous occurrences and accidents that occur, thereafter, implements remedial measures to prevent reoccurrences
- The Master has overarching authority in matters involving HSE and MARPOL prevention. The Master must undertake action that is in the best interest of passengers, crew, vessel, and the marine environment.
- Accountable for all the Stores on the vessel; (ensure proper accountability for victualling, mechanical spares, vessel tools and equipment onboard vessel).
- Assist in planning dry dockings, scheduling of planned maintenance.
- Maintains effective communication with key stakeholders e.g. Regulators, Auditors, Class and the Port Authority.
- Any other responsibilities as are assigned by Vessel Management/ PATT.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities |
- Knowledge of the required standards of International and Shipping Societies
- Knowledge of vessel operating processes, procedures, and technology.
- Knowledge of HSE standards and procedures.
- In-depth knowledge of statutory and regulatory rules and requirements.
- Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Analytical and highly proactive in technical trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to lead and manage a diverse team of professional/technical staff

Minimum Academic Qualifications, Training and Working Experience |
- STCW Certificate of Competency as a Master Class 1 Deck (Unlimited) from an Administration recognized by the Flag State.
- Current valid Seafarers Medical Certificate (STCW 95 Compliant), unrestricted service
- Basic Safety Training inclusive of Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boats, Advance Fire Fighting and Certificate of Proficiency in Medical Care (STCW Compliant)
- Proficiency in IMO Designated Certifications; (ISPS, ISM, etc.) Certificate
- Crowd and Crisis Management Certificate
- GMDSS Certificate (STCW 95 Compliant)
- Marine First Aid Certificate
- Health, Safety and Environment Certification (STCW 95 Compliant)
- MED Certificate
- Certification in the knowledge of the ISM Code, ISPS Code, IMO Regulations
- At least eight (8) years’ experience as a Master on board High Speed Crafts (HSC)
