Line Chef

A well-established café and bistro with two locations in Kingston is currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Line Chef to contribute to their continued success.

Job Overview:

As a Line Chef, you will be a vital part of the kitchen team, responsible for preparing and plating meals to high standards. You will play a key role in ensuring customers enjoy outstanding dining experiences with every visit. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to company recipes and standards.
  • Follow all food and kitchen safety protocols to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Record wastage from prepped and cooked items accurately in the provided logbook or communicate this to the kitchen supervisor.
  • Stock prep and workstations with necessary supplies for daily service.
  • Assist team members in executing menu items promptly and accurately.
  • Clean and maintain prep and workstations, properly storing leftovers.
  • Use creativity to develop and prepare daily specials.
  • Label and date all prepped items being stored to ensure freshness.
  • Assist with the maintenance and proper care of kitchen tools and equipment.
  • Maintain and clean storage shelves and refrigerators.
  • Ensure that adequate stock levels are maintained and communicate to the kitchen supervisor before supplies run out.
  • Assist with receiving and verifying inventory deliveries, and communicate this in person or via the available WhatsApp group.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Line Chef or in a similar role within a restaurant or culinary setting.
  • Up-to-date Food Handlers’ Permit.
  • Strong knowledge of various cooking techniques, kitchen equipment, and food safety practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
