The Legal Officer provides legal services and advice to the Agency in accordance with best practices. They will also support the Corporate Secretary by advising on contracts, products, services and legal commitments.

Core Purpose
The legal officer is responsible for providing legal services and advice to the Agency in accordance with local and international best practice standards relating to the Agency’s
contractual agreements and other business related transactions. They also provide legal advice and support to the Corporate Secretary, to advise on documentation associated with
contracts, products/services and legal commitments of the Agency.
Required Competencies
  • Extensive/ Expert knowledge of Conveyancing and contract drafting
  • Extensive/ Expert knowledge of and experience with financial regulatory laws, regulations and acts
  • Extensive/Expert knowledge of the laws and regulations pertinent to the operations of the Trade and Investment Agency
  • Specialist knowledge of Industrial Relations
  • Substantial/In-depth knowledge of court procedures and practices; and of rules of evidence
  • Substantial/In-depth knowledge of legal drafting principles and practices, legal research skills and techniques
  • Substantial/In-depth knowledge of legal principles, practices and procedures
Qualifications and Requirements of the Role
  • Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from a recognised university
  • Legal Education Certificate (LEC) or equivalent
  • Admission to practise Law in Trinidad and Tobago
  • Training in corporate governance would be an asset Or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training
Experience
3-4 years experience as a practising Attorney-at-Law with demonstrated proficiency in providing corporate secretarial services, legal advice, reviewing cases and performing duties as an Attorney-at-Law.
