CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Barbados Fair Trading Commission (‘the Commission’) is a tripartite body that is responsible for safeguarding the interests of consumers by enforcing the Utilities Regulation Act, Fair Competition Act and the Consumer Protection Act.

The Commission is seeking to recruit an individual to fill the position of Legal Officer (Temporary).

The successful candidate will be part of the legal team and will report to the General Legal Counsel.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing legal and regulatory advice and guidance to the Commission and staff on energy matters, including renewable energy;
• Assisting in the research and drafting of Commission decisions and orders on the determination of applications submitted by the regulated electric  utility and others in the energy sector; and
• Preparing legal opinions on issues of law and regulation in the energy sector.

The successful candidate should:

• Be an Attorney-at-Law of not less than three years’ standing; and
• Have strong communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience gained in a regulatory or compliance environment is an asset. 

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following core competencies:

▪       Research skills/experience;

▪       Comprehensive analytical skills and the ability to write sound legal opinions;

▪       Relevant experience as a practicing Lawyer;

▪       Excellent communication & presentation skills;

▪       Good computer skills; and

▪       Knowledge of the relevant legislation.
