This jobholder is responsible, under the direction of the Manager, Legal Services for the enforcement and related legal work of the department.
Attend Board and committee meetings, record and transcribe minutes
Prepare meeting agenda and upload related documents
Provide advise to the Board of Directors on Corporate Governance
Representing the Authority at the Environmental Commission and the Supreme Court of Judicature as instructing attorney-at-law and / or as advocate where necessary
Initiating enforcement action relating to breaches of the Environmental Management Act and subsidiary legislation
Reviewing and vetting of contracts/Memoranda of Understanding etc.;
Processing of Freedom of Information requests;
Representing the Legal Services Department at internal and external committees;
Preparation of legal advice/opinions to other Units / Departments within the Authority;
Any other tasks assigned by the Manager, Legal Service
KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Must be an Attorney-at-Law licensed to practice in Trinidad and Tobago (3-5 years call to the Bar)
At least 2 years working in a Corporate Secretary environment
Training in environmental law would be an asset
Litigation experience
Any combination of relevant experience and training
