This jobholder is responsible, under the direction of the Manager, Legal Services for the enforcement and related legal work of the department.

  • Attend Board and committee meetings, record and transcribe minutes
  • Prepare meeting agenda and upload related documents
  • Provide advise to the Board of Directors on Corporate Governance
  • Representing the Authority at the Environmental Commission and the Supreme Court of Judicature as instructing attorney-at-law and / or as advocate where necessary
  • Initiating enforcement action relating to breaches of the Environmental Management Act and subsidiary legislation
  • Reviewing and vetting of contracts/Memoranda of Understanding etc.;
  • Processing of Freedom of Information requests;
  • Representing the Legal Services Department at internal and external committees;
  • Preparation of legal advice/opinions to other Units / Departments within the Authority;
  • Any other tasks assigned by the Manager, Legal Service


  •  
    KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Must be an Attorney-at-Law licensed to practice in Trinidad and Tobago (3-5 years call to the Bar)
  • At least 2 years working in a Corporate Secretary environment
  • Training in environmental law would be an asset
  • Litigation experience
  • Any combination of relevant experience and training
