Legal Advisor

Job Purpose / Objective: The individual in this role will assist the Legal Manager by providing legal advice to internal stakeholders on various aspects of the company's operations in Trinidad and Tobago. This includes drafting and reviewing contracts, ensuring compliance with Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) policies, and managing legal claims and disputes.

Roles / Responsibilities:

  • Offer legal advice and support in drafting and reviewing different types of contracts used by the company.
  • Assist with all aspects of the company's ABC Compliance Program.
  • Support the management of new and ongoing legal claims and disputes, including coordination with external counsel when necessary.
  • Monitor relevant laws and regulations to ensure the company's compliance.
  • Conduct legal research, analysis, and prepare legal opinions and advice on various matters.
  • Provide corporate secretarial support, including preparing and filing notices with the Registrar of Companies, drafting board meeting minutes and resolutions, and preparing powers of attorney.
  • Maintain and update legal forms, templates, and other documents used by the company.
  • Provide legal support during incidents and emergencies as needed.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with various departments and participate in internal and external meetings.
  • Assist with other projects or activities as required by the company.

Job Specifications / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB)
  • Legal Education Certificate or equivalent
  • Member in good standing of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago
  • At least five years of practical legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department
  • Strong academic and commercial background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a dynamic legal environment with clients who need to respond quickly to business and regulatory demands
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients at all levels
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment
  • Experience advising clients in the oil and gas industry

Working Conditions:

  • Onshore, office-based.
  • Occasional travel to other locations for meetings, seminars, and training.
  • Flexible hours: may be required to work outside of normal working hours or on scheduled off days (evenings and/or weekends) depending on operational needs.
