The Lead - Quality Control is responsible for providing technical support in line with achieving Damus’ ultimate goal of delivering world class products and services against Company, customer and contractual requirements and in accordance with safety, codes, specifications and schedules.

JOB SUMMARY

The Lead - Quality Control is responsible for providing technical support in line with achieving Damus’ ultimate goal of delivering world class products and services against Company, customer and contractual requirements and in accordance with safety, codes, specifications and schedules.  The incumbent validates that finished work meets all acceptance criteria in accordance with established Key Performance Indicators (KPI) for Quality Control.   He/she also provides technical support during turnaround projects, coded works and during the different phases of bidding, planning, scheduling, executing and turn over of finish products to the customer.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 Technical Support and Management

  1. In consultation with the Manager – HSEQ, provide leadership to the QC team to ensure the successful implementation of the Departments’ Strategic and Operational plans. 
  2. Provide oversight of the welding programme through design welding engineering, developing the concept, methodology and application, while ensuring the required standards of workmanship are maintained in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  3.  In consultation with the Estimating Department prepare bid estimates and proposals in accordance with Technical and Company procedures whilst providing the ongoing risk analysis and relevant risk mitigation of proposed projects/bids.
  4. Work with the Project and Support Department to plan, schedule and execute TAR projects and release resources from early stages of the project (i.e. Pre-Award meetings).
  5. Provide support to the Management and QC Team on code interpretation and specifications suitable to our scope of work.

Quality Control Systems

  1. In collaboration with the Manager – HSEQ, manage the Company’s quality control processes including inspection and test activities as well as planning and coordinating all monitoring and measurement activities related to product realization.
  2. In collaboration with the QC Team, ensure that the required levels of quality and workmanship standards are maintained throughout product realization as per Quality Manual, seeking to avoid re-works.
  3. Analyze data to identify areas for improvement in the quality control system.
  4. Generate Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) reports inclusive of the weld defect rate and other critical project parameters, initiate trend analyses and participate in root cause analysis for non-conforming trends observed; and implement corrective and preventative actions for continuous improvement and excellent performance.

WELDING SUPPORT Systems

  1. Manage the welding programme on the project to ensure that welding activities conform to the organization’s welding procedures.
  2. Ensure that all Welders assigned to jobs are qualified to the WPS being used.
  3. Develop and implement the relevant Inspection and Test Plan to ensure that inspection and test points in the welding programme are implemented and maintained.
  4. Establish and oversee the ongoing implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) relevant to the site supervision activities/tasks, procedures listed below and monitor or audit the implementation of the SOPs as required:

   (a)  Review of CWI/Welding Team Lead's reports of random checks of welding performance as described below:

                  (i)    Ensure conformance of fitted parts prior to welding.
                  (ii)   Visually examine the welded portions after welding is completed.
                  (iii)  Ensure the proper storage, distribution and use of welding consumables.
                  (iv)  Ensure that weld parameters are maintained during the welding process in accordance with the                                       approved WPS.

ASME QUALITY MANAGEMENT Systems

  1. In collaboration with the QC Team, ensure that the required levels of quality and workmanship standards are maintained throughout applicable ASME “R” Stamp work in order to avoid re-works.
  2. Where applicable, ensure relevant reports, Inspection and Test Plans, Repair Plans, Welding Procedure Specification and other specifications and guidelines are developed and submitted to the ASME Inspector in accordance with the current Quality Manual and project specific scope.

Risks Minimization and Compliance

  1. Oversee the management of TAR projects, ensuring successful completion within the proposed QC plan and schedule promoting increasing Damus’ brand strength with Customer.
  2. Participate in Project Risk Assessment meeting and planning

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Sound acumen regarding Engineering, metallurgy, welding, fabrication, lifting and Rigging and Industrial Plant operations.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in the application of non-nuclear API and ASME Codes.
  • Negotiation, Coaching & Financial and business acumen.
  • Strong knowledge of OSH legislation and regulations.
  • Sound knowledge of Quality Management, Project Management, Mechanical Construction and Maintenance, applicable ISO 9001 standards, HSSE and IR regulations and best practices; ASME and API Codes

QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATION

Essential

  • B.Sc. Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial or Similar Discipline) or equivalent from an accredited training institution/programme recognized by the Company.
  • Certification in Welding (CWI), API 510 and API 570 (mandatory)
  • Certification and/knowledge in ASME Sect VIII. Div I

EXPERIENCE

  • Demonstrated competency and/or competencies normally acquired over a minimum of ten (10) years combined field experience in the manufacturing of tanks, piping and/or pressure vessels and the quality aspects during the process.
  • For TAR services – Demonstrated competence and/or competencies normally acquired over a minimum of five (5) years of field experience in the execution of mechanical turnarounds in the energy industry with good exposure to sub QC planning, MCC and management of QC TAR Department.
  • Minimum of 3 – 5 years hands on experience managing staff teams.
  • Experience in ASME “R” Stamp Work and ASME Sect VIII is mandatory.
  • Experience working in a heavily unionized environment.
