Labatory Technician responsible for quality checks and testing of various samples. CQT Certified with knowledge of Analytical Chemistry.

Key Responsibilities:
 Implements work plans, in conjunction with Lab Supervision; allocates and executes tasks to meet operational
and quality objectives.
 Reviews work of Laboratory Technician and provides guidance where necessary
 Reviews test methods and monitors their implementation to ensure adherence, and compliance with
approved quality control procedures and safety standards in collaboration with Lab Supervision.
 Keeps abreast of the latest developments in Laboratory Techniques and makes recommendations for
improvement as necessary.
 Supports the implementation of Performance Management System.
 Participates in the delivery of safety and technical training for self-development and members of the work
unit.
 Adheres to Laboratory Accreditation requirements for example ISO, A2LA, ASTM, IP and Industry Quality
Standards, Policies, Procedures, Practices and Guidelines.
 Performs routine and non-routine laboratory tests/analyses to determine all process parameters per the
Analytical Schedule providing accurate and timely analytical results.
 Operates and maintains lab equipment/apparatus by following operating instructions, troubleshooting
breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance and calling for repairs.
 Monitors the availability of supplies including critical inventory, needed for analysis, and to make any needs
for such supplies known to laboratory supervision
 Samples and analyses process streams, water and gases, including effluent streams and special samples as
directed.
 Conducts calibrations and verifications on apparatus according to standard procedures and laboratory
schedules.
 Prepares chemical solutions, reagents and blends according to standard methods and laboratory procedures.
 Appraises supervision of unusual results or observations on samples or readings.
 Participates in the review of the results of process plant and blending operations as directed to ensure
attainment of related quality standards.
 Participates in the development/preparation of test methods, procedures and calibration standards.
 Participates in the commissioning of new equipment.
 Maintains housekeeping and ensures laboratory apparatus and equipment is in a clean condition.
 Participates in the maintenance of the Laboratory Quality Management System as applies to quality assurance
techniques, practices and guidelines and adheres to Laboratory Accreditation requirements
 Ensures dispose of waste in keeping to proper procedure and HSSE requirements
 Maintains records and documentation on Company Information Management System
 Assists in the training, certification and development of technicians in test methodologies, laboratory
procedures, policies, practices and guidelines
 Proficient in octane and cetane testing as per ASTM D2699, ASTM D2700 and ASTM D613
 Proficient in Chromatographic testing methods
 Proficient in Analytical testing using Atomic Absorption and Inductively Coupled Plasma technology and
equipment
 Proficient in petroleum products and crude oil testing using associated instrument methodologies
 Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive
 Maintains and records parameters of laboratory equipment and reports any abnormal values
 Maintains shift log of laboratory activities
 Perform all other related job functions as required.

Qualifications:
 National Examination Council Science Technicians’ diploma or equivalent AND a minimum of 10 (ten) years’
working experience in an industrial laboratory environment
OR
 BSc Degree in Chemistry from a recognized institution AND a minimum of five (5) years’ working experience
in an industrial laboratory environment

Preferred:
 Quality Technician Certification (CQT) from a recognized institute
 Internal Auditing to ISO 17025:2017 from a recognized institute

Key Skills:
 Possess knowledge of Analytical Chemistry
 Ability to carry out advanced level math calculations and formulations
 Possess knowledge of quality control requirements for environmental compliance analysis.
 Ability to utilize the Lab Information Management System (LIMS) for data management
