JOB PURPOSE

To coordinate changes to computer databases, test and implement the database, ensuring that the data stored is backed up regularly, stored effectively, tuned for performance, the data is secure from unauthorized access, and ensures that data is available, by maximizing database uptime.

JOB RESPONSIBILITY

  • Interacts with development and end-user personnel to determine application data access requirements, transaction rates, volume analysis, and other pertinent data required to develop and maintain integrated databases.
  • Assists in developing standards and guidelines to guide the use and acquisition of software and to protect vulnerable information
  • Designs logical and physical databases or reviews description of changes to database design to understand how changes to be made affect physical databases.
  • Coordinates physical changes to computer databases; and codes, tests, and implements physical databases.
  • Establishes physical database parameters. Codes database descriptions and specify identifiers of the database management system.
  • Manage user access to the database
  • Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to the database.
  • Makes changes to the database management system as directed by the Team Leader.
  • Implements security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure.
  • Ensures that storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures are functioning correctly.
  • Identify and resolve data issues
  • Confers with co-workers to determine the impact of database changes on other systems.
  • Modifies database programs to increase processing performance referred to as performance tuning.
  • Identify and evaluate industry trends in database systems to serve as a source of advice for upper management.
  • May train users

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science
  • Certified – Microsoft Database Administrator qualification would be an asset
  • At least two years of related experience
