An established firm in Saint Lucia is seeking a Legal Associate- Civil Law Department to add to their Private Client team. The role requires an enthusiastic attitude to do a broad range of legal work you will be working as a part of a dynamic team, acting as a point of contact in both contentious and non-contentious private client work, including corporate, commercial, banking, insolvency, succession, intellectual property and insurance matters. Requirements
• An LLB. and a Certificate of Legal Education
• Admission to practice as an attorney-at-law at the Saint Lucia Bar with preferably three (3) years' relevant post qualification experience in the areas of commercial law, conveyancing and succession
• Ability to work unsupervised, or with minimal supervision in all aspects of Civil law
• A strong work ethic and commitment to excellence with an ability to work in a demanding, deadline-driven environment
• A collegial and team-oriented approach to the practice of law.
Responsibilities and Duties
• Preparing, assisting, reviewing and amending legal documents or instruments required by Clients of the firm.
• Drafting and reviewing Agreements, Contracts and other legal documents
• Drafting pleadings and other documents including leases, deeds, wills and correspondence
• Reviewing contracts, negotiating and drafting all relevant business documents/ contracts on behalf of clients
• Transactional experience in drafting and negotiating corporate and finance agreements would be an asset
• Representing clients in tribunals and in Courts (Magistrate's Court, High Court and Court of Appeal) where required;
• Enhancing the firm's reputation by carrying out all functions legally, ethically, and morally appropriate to assist the firm in achieving the client's goals.
• Anticipating and mitigating potential legal problems for the firm's clients - and developing strategies to avoid costly litigation and reduce potential areas of risk.
• Developing and maintaining good client relationship skills, gaining client's confidence and that of other professionals
• Offering advice on the law, legal procedures and a wide range of associated issues to clients as well as researching documents and case history to ensure accuracy of advice and procedures
• Preparation of periodic client litigation/status reports
• Attending and representing clients at meetings
• Complying with all the firm's policies and procedures
• Diligently carrying out duties given by the Senior Attorneys
• Treating all information pertaining to the law firm and its client and their business as wholly confidential
• Remaining updated on all changes in the law
• Consistently demonstrating the ability to work without significant supervision and developing a positive image of expertise in the assigned area(s)
• Having the ability to identify and articulate necessary strategies to facilitate performance and returns
• Promoting harmonious working relationships
• Using best efforts (consistent with the observance of all obligations of professional conduct) to obtain new clients for the law firm and use best efforts to promote the law firm.
• Such other legal or administrative duties as may from time to time be assigned.
Contract- Initial 2 year contract (with a probationary period).
