Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) conduct basic, non-invasive interventions to help save lives and reduce harm at emergency sites.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Controlling life threatening situations to include severe bleeding, treating shock, administering oxygen, stabilizing, lifting and carrying seriously ill and injured persons, including those with spinal injuries;
  • Stabilizing non-life threatening situations including bandaging wounds, splinting injured extremities, dealing with psychological stress of patients;
  • Assist with emergency rescue including confined spaces and high angle evacuation;
  • Effectively communicate important data to nurse, doctor and nurse administrator;
  • Maintain accurate records;
  • Respond with the Nurse on duty by ambulance;
  • Provide coverage in the mines during tramming;
  • Assist with chronic illness clinic;
  • Follow-up with clients with life style illness on a bi-monthly basis;
  • Ensure that cleanliness of ambulance and clinic is maintained;
  • Assist in wellness program drafting articles and doing necessary health checks;
  • Assist with sanitary inspections to include sterilization of dressing sets, packs and other medical instruments;
  • Maintain ambulance inventory;
  • Participate regularly in refresher training;
  • Assist in audit preparation (ASAT) in Environment, Health and Safety department;
  • Assist in preparing employees for medicals and surveillances (vision screen, vital signs);
  • Provide coverage for all construction projects.

Critical Qualifications/Competencies

  • High school diploma;
  • Current EMT certification/license;
  • Current CPR certification;
  • Minimum 1 year working experience in an emergency care/nursing environment preferred;
  • Must have sound oral and written communications skills;
  • Ability to bend, pull, push and lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions;
  • Demonstrate ability to implement clinical care in accordance with outlined policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of company protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies;
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
