RECRUITMENT OFFICER 

 The Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), the only specialized maritime university in the English-speaking Caribbean, is inviting applications for Recruitment Officer.

 Job Purpose

The Recruitment Officer will promote the Caribbean Maritime University as a higher education destination for students in Jamaica and around the globe. The incumbent will represent the University at career fairs and higher education events, give presentations at secondary schools across the island and will plan and coordinate campus visits by schools and civic organizations. The incumbent also ensures a planned and coordinated approach is taken to retain students on programmes each year and to maximize the numbers who progress to the next stage on their programme. In addition to advising to students, post-recruitment, to enable transition from entry to the University to graduation, while monitoring retention rates among the student population.

 Key Outputs:

  • Planned recruitment visits and outreach executed.
  • Faculty recruitment trends analysed, and needs determined and documented.
  • Relationships with key external stakeholders established and retained.
  • Recruitment drive responses and surveys reviewed.
  • Student Advising initiatives implemented.
  • Work plan and customer intervention log kept and maintained.
  • Statistical Reports and updates timely prepared and submitted.

 Key Responsibility Areas:

  •  Visits secondary schools, speaks to groups and individual students, and meets with school counsellors to promote outreach activities.
  • Represents the University at to the public through scheduled presentations on campus, at high schools, through participation in college fairs and expositions.
  • Serves as a liaison to develop partnerships between the university and secondary schools across the island.
  • Arranges visits to campus by schools and other civic organizations along with the Office of Marketing and Communicates to showcase the University and its offerings.
  • Participates in the development of student recruitment and retention plans, strategies, and written materials.
  • Prepares reports and proposals, and responds to inquiries from students, schools, and organizations.
  • Works closely with members of the Marketing team as and when required including publications, promotions, market research, events and PR activity.
  • Responds to inquiries and requests for information from students, parents, and alumni
  • Promotes the programmes of the University through the dissemination of promotional paraphernalia and participation in other promotional activities.
  • Develops links and relationships with secondary schools to promote CMU programmes, and to provide pre-admissions advice.
  • Carrying, setting up and dismantling heavy display equipment at recruitment events across Jamaica.
  • Provides guidance to students wishing to change programme or location, readmit and/or withdraw to allow for smooth transition to progress, continue, or return.
  • Reviews career goals with students and help them follow the proper track to reach their goals.
  • Meets with students regularly to review degree progress and graduation, particularly transfer students and students who are trailing.
  • Reviews conditional student profiles to ensure students are fulfilling requirements and/or meeting the stipulated University requirements for clearance.
  • Participates in training and maintains a relationship with professional organizations to keep
  • Assists with the review and update of policies on student recruitment, retention, and other factors relevant to admissions.
  • Prepares and keeps accurate reports and statistical data for presentation to the Manager, Recruitment and Admissions for internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  • Maintains an accurate work plan of activities for review by immediate supervisor and for appraisal purposes.

 Performance Standards:

  •  Participation and coordination of planned recruitment visits, outreach, and initiatives executed within established timelines.
  • Documented Analysis of faculty recruitment trends to determine recruitment effectiveness.
  • Establishment and retention of key external stakeholder relationships.
  • Recruitment drive responses and surveys reviewed, and improvements effected.
  • Effectiveness of student advising initiatives initiatives implemented.
  • Assessment of target vs actual student retention performance for reporting and improvement purposes.
  • Evaluation of initiatives for special and at-risk students.
  • Detailed work plan and customer intervention log kept and maintained for reporting and evaluating purposed
  • Timely preparation and submission of statistical reports, updates, and trends.

 Required Competencies:

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of CMU’s courses, programmes and Admissions procedures
  • Considerable knowledge of current immigration rules and regulations.
  • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software applications.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment.
    • Proficiency in building and maintaining data bases.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education Administration, Social Studies or equivalent qualification.
  • Three (3) years Academic Administration experience.
  • Experience working in a post-secondary environment advising students.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to admissions, registration, testing, and placement.
  • Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and other database applications.
