The Claims Technician is responsible for the prompt executing of the claims process from beginning to end, ensuring that all incoming claims are registered, making decisions on the extent and validity of a claim and checking for any potential fraudulent activity.

KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acknowledge receipt of the claim and provide advice on making a claim and the processes involved.
  • Improve the customers’ experience by guiding them through the claims process, collect accurate information and documents to proceed with a claim.
  • Appoint Investigators, Adjusters and/or other similar industry professional from a network of approved service providers.
  • Monitor the progress of a claim, continuous follow-up and timely updates to the Claimant and addressing any concerns as they arise.
  • Liaise with Internal Teams, other Insurance Companies, Brokers, Adjusters, Investigators and Service Providers for updates, reports and/or advice.
  • Accompany Investigators and/or Adjusters where required to be part of the survey and reporting process.
    Liase with the Internal Technical & Legal Units, Attorneys as well as other professionals where required in order to effectively manage and negotiate the terms of a claim.
  • Contact persons from the company's network of approved professionals (Garages, Repairers, General Contractors) and coordinate with them to effect repairs on the policyholder's or other claimant's property where required.
  • Review new claims, collect and verify documents received for accuracy and completness and request/obtain essential information to advise clients/claimants.
  • Analyse a claim made by a Policyholder to establish whether it satisfies the Terms and Conditions of the Policy.
  • Assist Clients where necessary in completing the relevant forms.
  • Analyse claims to determine appointment or investigator or internal and/or external adjusters in accordance with claims guidelines.
  • Effectively use core operating systems to manage all aspects of incoming claims including policy notes and digital files for each client ensuring that files are in the correct action at each stage of the claims process.
  • Review incoming reports to ensure recommended settlement from external adjusters and/investigators are equitable to all parties.
  • Initiate the claim recovery process in accordance with Company's guidelines and procedures.
  • Notify Supervisors/Managers of potentially fraudulent claims and provide assistance where required in the investigation thereof. 
  • Process payments and/purchase orders in accordance with established Company Guidelines
  • Enter, authorize and sign off claim payments within your Limits of Authority
  • Review settlement and other issued cheques for accuracy and remit to the respective recipient(s) with the signing of the appropriate discharge/receipt.
  • Complete any job-related function relevant to the Insurance Operations Property and Casualty Division that may be required.
KEY TECHNICIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of the core principles of insurance and how this is applied on a day to day basis.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the range of insurance products and services available in the market.
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of regulatory requirements and how to meet these on a day-to-day basis.  
  • Considerable knowledge of how claims should be handled and managed.
  • Basic knowledge of the underwriting process.
  • Considerable knowledge and understanding of the claims notification process, how claims are validated and investigated.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum five (5) CXC passes including Math and English (Minimum grade 2).
  • Certification in TTII – State License (Grades 1& 2).
  • CII Certificate (Grade 3).
  • One (1) to six (6) years technical experience.
  • Customer Service experience will be an asset.
