Project STAR seeks a dynamic Social Worker within SAV-LA-MAR to develop and implement community-informed and owned interventions designed to achieve greater community cohesion, financial inclusion, and reduced violence within our communities.

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) has made a commitment to leverage its network and contribute to a strategic and targeted intervention aimed at transforming social and economic outcomes for communities across Jamaica. This leading private sector umbrella group seeks to facilitate a collaborative, evidence-based approach to inclusive community development and sustained violence prevention. The approach of the Social Transformation and Renewal Foundation (STAR) is towards effective partnerships, data-driven problem solving, mindset change, community-informed and owned decision making, accurate and timely reporting, and accountable systems of oversight and governance. Project STAR’s ultimate outcome is that as one people, we are working together to transform ourselves and our communities; creating a Jamaica where all are valued, and all can thrive.

We seek a Social Worker in SAV to carry out case management of at-risk youth and other targeted groups within the community through proper assessment, case planning, service provision and appropriate referrals to relevant service providers in consultation with our Community Services Coordinator.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's in social work, psychology or related degree from an accredited programme, with a minimum of five (5) years’ field work and crisis intervention experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Empathy and compassion.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and social service resources.
  • Experience working with people that are affected by issues including neglect, child abuse, domestic violence, mental health, and substance abuse.
  • Problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Ability to judge the relative costs and benefits of potential social service and health care actions and choose the most appropriate one.
  • Proficiency in office software applications (e.g., Microsoft Office suite) and database management.
  • Ethical and professional behavior. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

SPECIAL WORK CONDITIONS:

 

The incumbent may work in various locations, inside and outside of an office setting, within Project STAR communities. Travel is a standard feature of the job; a valid driver's license and motor vehicle are required. The job may require occasional evening or weekend work. Exposure to emotionally challenging situations; empathy and self-awareness with the ability to manage stress and maintain emotional resilience are essential.
