We are looking for a HR Generalist to support our Human Resources department.  The HR Generalist is responsible for the day-to-day management of HR operations; performing both administrative and strategic functions in the administration of the policies, procedures and programmes of the organization. The HR Generalist works in partnership with other departments, to deliver HR strategic business goals and initiatives.

Ultimately, you should be able to ensure our HR department supports our employees while achieving business objectives.

Main Duties:

  • Assist with all internal and external HR-related matters.
  • Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, global training, aptitude exams and certifications.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Implements new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from employees, and management, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Hosts and facilitates employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
  • Maintains compliance with employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  •  Undertake tasks around performance management
  • Produce and submit reports on general HR activities.
  • Gather data, analyze and create reports with useful HR metrics,  
  • Organize end of probation, quarterly and annual employee performance reviews
  • Maintain employee files and records in electronic and paper form
  • Enhance job satisfaction for employees by resolving issues promptly, applying new perks and benefits and organizing team building activities
  • Represent employer in community and other corporate events
  • Manages committees on wellness, training, health and safety, culture, and communications as needed
  • Enter new employees’ data (e.g. bank accounts and tax identification numbers) into internal databases.
  • Update internal databases (e.g. record sick, maternity leave, vacation utilization, etc.)
  • Prepare HR documents, like Change Forms, Disciplinary Reports, Transfers Letters and new hire guides
  • Revise company policies as required.
  • Liaise with external partners, like insurance vendors, and ensure legal compliance
  • Assist payroll department by providing relevant employee information (e.g. leaves of absence, maternity leaves, etc.)
  • Arrange accommodations and processing of Work Permits for expatriates 
  • Participate in HR projects
  • Any other duties assigned

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • BSc in Human Resources, Business Administration, or relevant field.
  • Minimum 3 years proven work experience as HR Generalist, Employees Relations Specialist or a similar role
  • Excellent knowledge of Jamaican labor laws and regulations.
  • Strong decision making, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Superb computer literacy with capability in MS office and proficiency to quickly learn new systems.
  • High ethical conduct
  • Efficient HR administration and people management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, conflict management and resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of HR functions and best practices.
    • Proven work experience as HR Generalist or Employees Relations Specialist.
