Environmental and Regulatory Compliance Manager - Job ID# 13986

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE

The Environmental and Regulatory Compliance Manager:

  • Manages the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Company`s Environmental Management System (EMS).
  • Is responsible for providing technical guidance and assistance to the Senior Manager Health and Safety (H&S) and Security, Leadership Team and all employees of the company in the implementation of EMS policies, procedures, practices, and training programs.
  • Is additionally responsible for a system of assurance, EMS development and implementation, Reporting and Compliance, Environmental Programming and upholding the Company`s Green Agenda focus, while simultaneously safeguarding the Company`s license to operate.
  • Liaises closely with members of the Leadership and Extended Leadership Team and interfaces with other internal departments.
  • Is accountable for developing and administering the EMS budget within prescribed limits.

FUNCTIONS

  • Develops and implements environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure corporate sustainable development within the Company`s Green Agenda focus.
  • Oversees the operations of the company’s Environmental and Regulatory Compliance (ERC) Department in compliance with NGC policies, procedures and defined Environmental regulations.
  • Assures the execution of the overall delivery of the company’s Environmental Management (EM) objectives via environmental Management Team’s accountability and performance.
  • Provides leadership and direction in the development and interpretation EM systems including but not limited to data management, analytics, reporting and facilitating recommendations.
  • Oversee activities and resource planning in collaboration with other departments and key stakeholders (internally and externally).
  • Works in conjunction with Senior Management to effectively plan, develop, and implement strategies giving assurance that an EM culture is embedded to meet required company objectives.
  • Develops and maintains consistently the relevant EM policies and procedures based on the needs of the organisation.
  • Recommends to the management team ways to improve operational efficiency through strategic Environmental Management investment.
  • Maintains awareness of industry standards, methodologies, tools, and best practices in project management in relation to EM.
  • Organises all aspects of pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy related conventions to safeguard the organisation's projects.
  • Leads the implementation of environmental policies and practices including education and sustainable adherence to such practices.
  • Ensures compliance with environmental legislation and keeps up to date with local and international regulation and legislation as it affects the performance of the organisation.
  • Liaises with relevant bodies such as local authorities, public bodies and competent bodies to consistently enhance the success of relationship management, project performance or any related EM matter.
  • Audits, analyses and reports environmental performance to internal and external clients and regulatory bodies to support decision making, program effectiveness and compliance.
  • Ensures the facilitation of impact assessments to identify, assess and reduce an organisation's environmental risks and financial costs.
  • Promotes and raises awareness, at all levels of an organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues.
  • Develops and implements environmental management programs to continually improve the impact of the organization on the environment.
  • Trains and coaches' staff at all levels on environmental issues and responsibilities to ensure awareness is understood throughout the organization.
  • Writes and presents environmental reports, assuming lead responsibility in the company.
  • Implements programs of environmental assurance for key contractors and service providers in the supply chain.
  • Executes any other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for the position are:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant Engineering, Environmental or Natural Sciences. Postgraduate Degree or related qualification will be an asset.
  • At least ten (10) years’ experience in an oil and gas/petrochemical environment in the areas of Environment and or Risk Management, of which five (5) years must be at a senior leadership professional level.
