To contribute to organizational effectiveness by efficiently deploying and maintaining telecommunications solutions and services.

Field Technician - Major Areas of Responsibility

 Ensures effectiveness of operations by:

  • doing on-site surveys to ensure suitable conditions for equipment, and
  • installing telecommunication equipment on company/ customers’ premises.
  • installation and maintenance of equipment on site infrastructure (requires climbing of towers)

 Ensures optimum functionality of the Customer systems by:

  • programming radio and other wireless equipment
  • investigating system malfunction of customers’ networks, and
  • taking corrective action as required
  • proactively monitoring the performance of the network,
  • identifying and recommending upgrades, and 
  • installing upgrades based on firmware from manufacturers
  • installing firewalls; installing phones.

 Contributes to an effective work culture by:

  • exercising care & responsibility in use & maintenance of Company property assigned, and
  • performing all duties so as to ensure personal safety and that of others in the immediate environment. 

 Supports the Department by:

  • performing related duties as may be required from time to time.  

 

Field Technician - Additional Responsibilities 

     May be required to install support systems that facilitate installation of telecommunication equipment.   

           

 

Field Technician - Major Performance Indicators

  • Ability to accurately establish suitability of selected sites.
  • Timeliness and speed in doing installations.
  • Frequency of ‘reworks’.
  • % of customer complaints.
  • Ability to meet a turnaround time of 2-4hrs for all Help-desk queries.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and perform work schedules efficiently and effectively.
  • Network monitoring

Field Technician - Required Qualifications / Experience

  • Full certificate –CXC/GCE O’Level.
  • Certificate in Telecommunications.
  • Basic knowledge of radio frequencies and repairs.

 

Field Technician - Competencies / Attributes

  • Knowledge /experience of Networking would be an asset.
  • Trouble-shooting Skills.
  • Ability to think analytically and logically.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Oral Communication Skills.
  • Honesty & good manners.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work from heights
