The Classroom Assistant will report to the Principal and Classroom Teacher. Mastery of child supervision indoors, outdoors, and in specialist classes as well as personal care duties of young children (helping with good hygiene practices) is expected.
Essential Duties
Assist with supervision of children in the classroom, outdoors, and in specialist classes;
Provide careful and concentrated supervision of children to ensure safety and learning;
Provide an inclusive, caring environment with respect to children’s individual differences;
Assist with preparation and care of materials;
Assist with care and maintenance of the classroom environment;
Participate in planning lessons and activities as requested;
Provide care before and after school;
Attend faculty meetings, orientations, and professional growth opportunities;
Assist with hygiene and bathroom breaks;
Assist with meals, and snacks;
Support the class teacher with facilitating learning experiences of the students;
Foster positive and meaningful student interactions;
Monitor the playground and classroom at all times;
Complete tasks assigned by the classroom teacher to maintain the classroom environment and materials;
Assist the class teacher in gathering documentation of student’s work;
Other duties as assigned and requests made by the Principal or the class teacher;
Comply with all ISPS' policy and practices.
Minimum qualifications & skills
Qualified candidates will have experience working with younger children in a school setting;
Ideal candidates will have early childhood care and education qualifications;
CPR and First Aid certifications will be considered an asset;
Effective organizational, interpersonal, communication skills necessary for effective team success;
Qualified candidates must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with children, parents, and co-workers;
Patience, energy, and physical stamina;
A working knowledge of technology resources in education;
Mastery of supervision requirements and personal care duties of young children.
