ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT- HUMAN RESOURCE AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

Applications are invited for the position of  ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT, HUMAN RESOURCE & INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS.

COMPENSATION: $8,000,000.00 PER ANNUM

The successful candidate will, among other functions:

  • Support the Vice President, Human Resource & Administration in providing HR guidance to the senior management and associated companies, in planning and implementation of HR and IR activities to ensure a harmonious employee relations climate.
  • Manage union relationships and the collective bargaining process to include:

 -       Developing and maintaining mechanisms, modalities, and metrics to standardize processes and strategically inform and measure the industrial relations function

 -       Negotiation, settlement, and administration of collective labour agreements to ensure implementation by line managers and its companies consistent with  core values, and strategic business direction

  •  Manage the development, maintenance and communication of HR/IR systems, programmes, policies, procedures, and guidelines for employee relations, including discipline, performance management, and dispute resolution.
  • Provide oversight for the performance and management of the benefits programmes, health insurance, life insurance, personal accident insurance schemes, and pension schemes, in effect, and lead in the research and development of new policies and programmes, especially having regard to periodic changes in legislation.
  •  Monitor indicators of the organizational climate, and of management/staff relations and initiate steps to restore and/or maintain harmonious relations and a positive climate.
  •  Provide oversight for the application of the leave policy to control leave scheduling and accumulation, and ensure the preparation of periodic reports and statistics to inform management on the status of leave entitlement, usage, and accumulation.
  •  Manage the computerized Human Resource Information System (HRIS), the systems for the maintenance of employee records, and the compensation system, to include maintaining salary scales, supervising the update of salary listings and addressing compensation issues as they arise.
  •  Manage the absentee control system to monitor punctuality and attendance of staff, and the recording and reporting system with a view to achieving optimal punctuality and attendance standards. 

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Solid HR generalist background with wide ranging and extensive knowledge of HR policies, practices, procedures, and standards.
  • Sound knowledge of the laws, procedures and practices pertaining to human / industrial relations, to include  employment, termination, salary administration, benefits, and performance management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Act governing the operations of the company, its policies, procedures, goals, functions and operations of its various departments.
  • Working knowledge of:

-       Jamaican Labour Laws

-       Benefits administration, compensation, and related statutory regulations

-       The Pension Act and the management of pension funds

  • Sound knowledge of recruitment, training and development, and succession planning practices and procedures
  •  Working knowledge of computerized Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS).

 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • First degree in Management, Public Administration or equivalent.
  • Specialized/post graduate training in HR.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ working experience in HR/IR, with at least five (5) being at management level.

 REQUIRED SKILLS AND SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES:

  •  Strong analytical, problem-solving, human relations, decision-making, counseling, interviewing, negotiating,   and  grievance handling skills.
  •  Innate ability to build trust and generate confidence
  •  Outstanding customer service skills with the ability to build and maintain professional, friendly, and accessible relationships with internal and external customers.
  •  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to assignment changes easily. 
  •  Competence in planning and coordinating multiple projects, organizing resources, and establishing priorities. Ability to manage conflict and provide counselling, guidance, and coaching, with high levels of professionalism, initiative, and confidentiality.
