Head of Technical Studies

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College is seeking an exceptional candidate to fill the role of Head of Technical Studies. The Head is responsible for providing leadership in curricular issues, customer service, and human relations and ensuring that suitable educational offerings are delivered at a high standard.

Duties Include but are not limited to the following:

• Advise the Dean in identifying the technical training needs of the public and private sectors;
• Lead the implementation of the instructional goals contained in the board approved Strategic Plan;
• Manage the development and delivery of short courses;
• Provide departmental leadership in matters related to programmes, curriculum, and instruction;
• Consult with the Human Resources department to recruit, orient, and supervise all faculty;
• Support the ongoing professional development activities of department faculty;
• Maintain open and active channels of communication with students within the department;
• Conduct departmental meetings at least once a semester and submit meetings of same to the Dean;
• Conduct classroom observations of instructors utilizing the approved instruments;
• Conduct annual performance evaluations for all department faculty;
• Assess adjunct faculty each semester to assure compliance with all responsibilities;
• Review department course syllabi for completeness and consult with faculty members as needed;
• Advise students through the application and registration processes as well as through issues with courses, instructors or grades;
• Monitor department compliance with quality assurance and accreditation requirements;
• Lead the members of the department in improving the curriculum of the College. This responsibility includes the continuing study of trends in the academic areas of the department, the recommending of new courses and changes in curricula, and the assessment of student learning outcomes;
• Collaborate with other department heads for the smooth and efficient operation of the institution;
• Assist with the coordination of Orientation, Registration, Graduation, Convocation and other events or visitations as requested;
• Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the President or designee.

Qualifications & Experience

• A Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate credit hours in an appropriate academic field;
• Seven years’ prior teaching experience;
• Demonstrated professional and scholarly presentations and/or publications.

Salary range - $60,578.96 – $74,504.48 (USD)
