The Senior Investment Analyst will support the projects of the VM Group by providing financial analyses and conclusions on vendors and potential vendors and their financial health and viability.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Accounts, or any other related quantitative field.
  • Achieved Level 2 of the examinations leading to the CFA designation.
  • Achieved at least Level 1 of the examinations leading to the CFA, ASA, CFP, or other professional designation in a finance related field.
  • At least 3 years’ work experience in accounting, quantitative analysis and/or investments analysis and research

  • Economics and Financial Statement Analysis – Command of economic and accounting principles and practices, the financial markets, banking, investments, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Financial Mathematics –In-depth knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics, asset pricing and their applications
  • Valuation of companies, both private and publicly listed, and use of the most appropriate valuation techniques applicable to a variety of corporate structures and industries.
  • Modern capital markets, structure, function, and current events
  • Strong ability to create financial models utilizing large amounts of data, present findings and explain results when challenged.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Economic Research

  • Analyse developments in local and international financial markets to inform investment decision-making.
  • Interpret data on price, yield, stability, future investment-risk trends, economic influences, and other factors affecting investment portfolios.
  • Develop research views on both macro and micro-level investment issues.
  • Develop forecasts of business, industry, or economic conditions to inform investment decisions.
  • Build and maintain integrated spreadsheet models and organize and maintain industry data.
  • Provide commentary on the economy, investment solutions and investment strategy for publication in various media outlets.
  • Present oral and written reports on general economic trends, entire industries, individual corporations, and individual securities, including charts and graphs, using computer spreadsheets, to illustrate technical points.

Securities Analyses

  • Value companies listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange and maintained current valuations informed by quarterly earnings releases.
  • Value companies being presented for issue either in private placements or in public offerings.
  • Evaluate the performance of securities traded in the local and international markets within the context of the industries and regulatory environments in which they operate.
  • Develop knowledge of industry trends, competitive landscape, peer group analyses to facilitate improved client experience.
  • Conduct feasibility studies on private equity/financing proposals.
  • Recommend investments and investment timing to internal stakeholders, clients and/or the public.
  • Provide commentary on the investment and capital markets for publication on VM’s websites, social media and/or in various external media outlets.

Counterparty Analyses

  • Evaluate potential counterparties within the Framework for Managing Counterparty Credit Risk
  • Evaluate potential vendors to be engaged by the VM Group for various projects.
  • Evaluate the performance of companies with which the VM Group has an exposure.
  • On an ongoing basis, evaluate existing counterparties for increases in credit risk and report to the Assets and Liabilities Committee (ALCO) for a decision in a timely manner.
  • Recommend updates to the Framework for Managing Counterparty Credit Risk based on current and international best practices.

General Duties

  • Communicate market and research-oriented views, investment strategies and rationales to clients of varying levels of sophistication.
  • Collaborate with revenue generating units and marketing to deploy research findings to clients and/or senior management.
  • Work with management to interpret and prioritize business and information needs.
  • Provide direction and oversight for the junior members of the department.
