The incumbent is responsible for operating assigned heavy equipment/truck. The Operator/Driver is accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the vehicle and may also be required to perform maintenance checks and basic mechanical duties on assigned equipment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To operate all heavy equipment which include Tractor Trucks, Container Trucks, Dump Trucks, Flat Bed Trucks and Hiab Trucks.
  • To perform basic maintenance on vehicles.
  • As an operator of these equipment it is expected that you be observant at all times and continuously check to ensure that all equipment are in good working condition.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are kept clean at all times.
  • To collect cheque and cash and provide invoices and receipts when necessary 
  • Inspects truck before and after trips and submits report indicating truck condition.
  • Fastens chain or binders to secure load on trailer during transit.
  • Loads or unloads, or assists in loading and unloading truck.
  • Driving tractor with sleeper bunk behind cab.
  • Services truck with oil, fuel, and radiator fluid to maintain tractor-trailer
  • Service Vehicle Brakes where necessary
  • Gives directions to helper in packing and moving goods to trailer.
  •  Maneuvers truck into loading or unloading position, following signals from loading crew as needed.
  •  Maintains driver log according to Company regulations
  • Operate HIAB as assigned
  • Operate Backhoe as assigned
  • Operate other heavy equipment as assigned. 
  • Assist in Loading trucks where necessary
  • Perform daily safety and maintenance checks
  • Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required
  • Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored

 

General Responsibilities

1)      Compliance with all KPL Group Policies.

2)       Assist in monthly/annual stock taking as required.

3)      Promote safety awareness and the development of a Safety Culture within the company.

 

Required Education and Training:

  • Must possess a Class 5 drivers’ permit
  • Must possess a Certificate of Good Character from the TTPS. 
  • Experience in haulage and driving of trailer trucks.
  • Minimum two (2) O’Levels – preferably English and Mathematics 
  • 2-3 years’ Experience in a similar position.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills

 

 

 Knowledge - The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of truck and equipment safety
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and storage
  • Knowledge of maintenance techniques
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Knowledge of record keeping system
  • Ability to operate trucks in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to read and write to record pickups and maintain daily records
