The Draughtsman is required to provide direct support to the engineering team in the design of all aspects of technical drawings (electrical, engineering, architectural, survey, maps and pipe drawings).
This is a highly technical position, requiring a high degree of numeric accuracy and attention to detail. The incumbent has to be highly proficient in the use of a computer, and in particular, drafting related software for example Autocad.
The incumbent must possess sound knowledge of building materials and engineering practices, to enable him/her to produce the drawings. The position reports to the Manager, Property Maintenance and/or the Divisional Manager Property Management.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Develops architectural and/or technical design drawings and models from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and/or any other primary data.
- Operates computer assisted drafting equipment to generate drawings.
- Attends meeting as may be required.
- Prepares drawings with detailed schematics to aid in construction.
- Develop and built drawings for new and existing infrastructure.
- Ensures that all newly produced and existing drawings are filed in a secure location for ease of retrieval/reference.
- Provides technical advice and assistance as required.
- Supervises minor site works and performs quality checks.
- Drafts design sketches and 3D renders as required.
- Assists in the compilation of documentation packages and production of drawing sets as directed.
- Checks and verifies design drawings to conform to specifications and design data.
- Prepares documents for contracts and tender documents as required.
- Conducts research related to the job functions.
- Drafts technical and/or other reports and documents as required.
- Participates in site surveys as directed; and
- Performs any other duties as are assigned by the Manager, Property Maintenance and/or the Divisional Manager, Property Management.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Some knowledge of project management techniques and tools.
- Some knowledge of OSH Regulations.
- Working knowledge of construction methods and technical detailing.
- Knowledge in applying standards to resolve technical/design issues.
- Knowledge in developing and interpreting design principles.
- Knowledge of building codes and systems, regulations and construction.
- Competent in the use and functionality of AutoCAD and any other drafting software.
- Strong communication, analytical and interpersonal skills.
- Pro-active in the approach to work.
- Ability to prepare drawings accurately from oral instructions, rough sketches and notes.
- Ability to grasp abstract technical concepts and translate them into drawings.
- Ability to manage a large number of projects concurrently, with accuracy and speed.
- Ability to forecast impending problems and advise the Engineer in a timely manner.
- Ability to prepare technical and/or other reports.
- Ability to work efficiently within a fast paced/dynamic environment.
- Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND WORKING EXPERIENCE
- Technician’s Certificate in General Draughting from an accredited academic institution.
- Evidence of training in Autocad and any other related drafting software.
- Certificate in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Minimum of three (3) years working experience in a similar role within a corporate environment.
Any equivalent combination of academic qualification, training and working experience will be considered.
