Securities Analyst, Industry Risk

The Financial Services Commission (FSC) is an integrated financial services regulator. Interested candidates should have a research and policy interest in one of the following areas: securities, credit ratings, mutual funds and ETFs, corporate governance, securities offerings, financial accounting and disclosure, econometrics, asset pricing, financial markets and systemic risk.

The FSC has an immediate opening for the position of Securities Analyst, Industry Risk (Contract).

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Manager Special Projects Analytics & Surveillance, the Analyst (Industry Risk), assists with the administration of certain regulatory programs under the Securities Act.

The Analyst, Industry Risk evaluates the financial health and risk exposures of the securities industry which includes securities, investment advisors, collective investment schemes, the stock exchange, inst. The Analyst, Industry Risk prepares statistical, industry and economic outlook papers, analytical reports, briefing memoranda and correspondence.  

The Analyst, Industry Risk advises the Senior Analysts and Managers, and is responsible for identifying signs of financial weakness, emerging risks in the regulated entities through assessments and advise by written report. The Analyst, Industry Risk also has responsibility for answering routine inquiries and correspondence and preparing responses.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Effectively monitor the activities and financial health of the System
  • conduct statistical analyses, develop risk management systems, consult with team members, and report and present findings.
  • Identifies potential concerns, risks and statutory compliance issues in securities companies, stock exchange, issuers of securities and the regulated entities and advises the Senior Analysts and Managers,
  • Administer policies and procedures to ensure timely and efficient operations,
  • Develop and utilises programmes necessary to gather information and ensure compliance with filing requirements, deadlines, and financial criteria.
  • Analyse investment and lending policy submissions of collective investment schemes and other regulated entities.
  • Communicate statutory requirements and administrative policies to the public and industry by responding to correspondence and telephone inquiries.
  • Monitor the information processing system for annual statements and fee submissions.
  • Develop computer based financial programmes to effectively analyse financial filings of securities dealers, investment advisors, collective investment schemes, Stock Exchange and the regulated entities and financial trends in the securities industry.
  • Work with the systems department to develop new programs to meet the needs of the division.
  • Prepare industry reports for the Senior Analysts and the Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • First Degree in Finance, Economics, Banking, Accounting, Chartered Financial Analyst Level 1 or a professional designation in Accounting.
  • A minimum of three years’ relevant industry experience or experience in financial securities regulation.
  • Sound knowledge of the Acts regulating the financial sector and, knowledge of the Securities Industry.
