About the FSC:

The Financial Services Commission (FSC) is an integrated Financial Services regulator. Our mission is to regulate and supervise the Securities, Insurance and Private Pensions industries for the protection of their users thereby enhancing public confidence through the efforts of a competent workforce.

The FSC has an immediate opening for the position of Actuarial Assistant (Contract).

Position Summary:

The Actuarial Assistant provides technical assistance support for the work and duties performed by the Chief Actuary.  He/she reviews policy forms and actuarial reports for regulated businesses such as life, general insurance, and pensions businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in delivering a balanced, consistent, timely and effective analysis of the actuarial liabilities of pension, life and general insurance businesses.
  • Help to provide the necessary actuarial support required as a result of the various examinations carried out by the FSC.
  • Act primarily in support of the Chief Actuary in the gathering of data, the analysis of trends and the preparation of reports.
  • Analyze a variety of reports and applications for compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements and recommend action to the Chief Actuary.
  • Assist in the development of documented systems of internal evaluation of policy form submissions by regulated entities.
  • Assist in the development and documentation of procedures manuals for the examination of actuarial liabilities of the group pension and life and general insurance businesses underwritten by the regulated entities.
  • Develop and utilize programs necessary to gather information and ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements, deadlines, and financial criteria.
  • Review insurance policy applications to ensure compliance with legislation and FSC’s established policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Chief Actuary to prepare procedural manuals.
  • Run test scripts as prescribed to validate actuarial models, ensuring accuracy of projections and compliance.

Education, Knowledge and Skills:

  • BSc Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics or related field and completed at least one actuarial examination.
  • The job requires at least 3 years’ relevant work experience in a comparable position and business/work environment such as: an insurance or pension industries or regulatory bodies.
  • Registering and or completing one actuarial exam would be an asset.
