Our Client, an Organisation in the Manufacturing Sector, is seeking to fill the position of General Manager. Please note that this position is based in Barbados and is open to CARICOM Nationals

JOB SUMMARY

To determine the strategic direction and manage all of the activities of the organisation, in order to meet stakeholder requirements for profitability, market growth, efficiency, safety, quality, corporate governance and social responsibility.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic:

  • Determining the organisation’s Vision and Mission.
  • Leading the Senior Management team in developing and refining long/medium term strategies and incorporating into a Strategic plan that fits within the framework of the Vision and Mission and strategy.
  • Grow the business faster than the average market, increase the market share and consolidate business profit.
  • Leading the senior management team to produce an annual business plan and translate into goals and objectives for each department and action plans and targets for middle management and junior staff.
  • Monthly review and modification of strategy and action plans with senior and middle management to ensure timely execution and achievement of targets.
  • Monthly review of company performance with the Board of directors.

 

Human Resources:

  • Ensuring the proper organizational structure is in place to deliver on the strategic objectives.
  • Recruitment, development and retention of the human resources of the organisation by ensuring that suitable training, coaching, performance management and reward systems are in place for the achievement of the strategic plan.
  • Ensuring that Job Descriptions and KPIs for all employees are reviewed annually in line with Business Plan goals and quarterly appraisals are done.
  • Ensuring that the performance management system is tightly linked to incentives and compensation.
  • Proposing changes to the compensation plan in order to drive improvement and link reward to achieve targets.
  • Development and implementation of incentives to drive behavioral changes.
  • Develop and implement a succession plan for key positions in order to minimize disruption to the organization.
  • Providing effective leadership to subordinate staff and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring that HR and IR issues are properly handled in accordance with the Industrial Relations Act.

 

Safety:

  • Ensure the effective functioning of the Health and Safety committee.
  • Promoting safety awareness and the development of a safety culture within the company.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with all Policies and Procedures as well as enforced Legislative regulations.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSc or equivalent in Engineering, Finance or Marketing
  • Post graduate qualification would be an asset
  • At least 8-10 years’ work experience in senior managerial role supporting at the Executive level in a manufacturing organisation.

 

Business/Technical Skills:

  • Computer literate. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel,PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and influence the achievement of business plans
  • Basic knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of human resource                                     administration
  • Basic knowledge of basic industrial relations practices
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts used in the operations of a distribution company.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts and budgeting.
  • Expert in management, supervision and training.
